MOT test centres – a shocking example of public sector efficiency and good service…

I am new to the old driving lark so when the car came up for its first MOT I had no idea what to expect. On Thursday I went to the NI Direct website to check what slots are free. The MOT booking site updates in real time so I was able to get a cancelation for 3:30pm that very day. That will do me, so I clicked the button, entered my debit card details and I was all booked …

Bagan Myanmar. Photo of the every other day…

By Rosie O’Connor. Explaining the photo Rosie said: This photo was taken in Bagan, in Northern Myanmar. I had been travelling pretty much non stop for about 48 hours, first a minibus ride from Siem Reap to Bangkok, a flight to Yangon, then a night bus to a bus station a few miles out of the town. Anyone who’s been on a night bus in South East Asia knows they’re not exactly conducive to a good nights sleep. After arriving exhausted …

Scots vote for Holyrood not Westminster as SNP landslide wipes out Labour in Scotland…

The SNP victory in Scotland is nothing short of spectacular. They gained a phenomenal 50 seats, taking 40 seats from Labour and 10 from the Libdems. What is clear is that the Scots have embraced devolution and the SNP message. We can expect another Scottish independence referendum in a few years, and if the SNP momentum keeps up it will be a victory for the Yes campaign. What is also interesting is that with a 71% turnout, Scotland had the highest turnout …

An example of the worst of Belfast and the best of Belfast…

On Monday night a group of males decided it would be a good idea to burn down Asta’s Glam Factory on Castlereagh Street in East Belfast. It is not clear if they felt false nails and tanning was a threat to Ulster or as the police suspect, it was a ‘racist hate crime’. The salon (which only opened last week) was owned by a Lithuanian woman, Asta Samaliute, who as you can imagine was not too happy about finding the business she worked so hard to …

Will Hillary Clinton be the first female US President?

After years of teasing and speculation, Hillary Clinton yesterday announced her bid for the White House. Barack Obama was the first black president, will Hillary be the first female? On the face of it the omens look good. Demographic changes of an increasing Hispanic vote mean many Republicans fear they may never reclaim the White House. Hillary has an impressive CV – from First Lady to New York Senator, to Secretary of State. On the negative side it really does …
