Arthur Morgan Watch: Day 19…

This is Arthur Morgan, TD for the Louth constituency. For his party, Sinn Fein, he holds a watching brief on at least three cabinet level ministerial portfolios being their spokesman on Finance, Enterprise and Trade, and Social and Community Affairs. He’s also a former IRA prisoner having served seven and a half years at Long Kesh prison, where he participated in the blanket protest, before his release in 1984. On the 23rd December last (ie, 20 days ago) Arthur told …

“not only do I believe that but I’m putting it to the test.”

As Mick has said, and this UTV report reiterates, Peter Robinson has “asked officials in the OFMDFM to look at the allegations and indicate whether the First Minister should have been responsible for disclosing the information to the Assembly or Westminster.” Although, I’m not entirely convinced that the departmental solicitor’s opinion will be a sufficiently independent response to what the Guardian’s Michael White identifies as the political problem – “the political problem is transparency and accountability in a world which …

Kelly equates Liam Adams question with his own paramilitary background…

My analysis on Robinson shortly. First, I’ve just heard an extraordinary attempt by Gerry Kelly to side step a question about whether he was in the poor place criticising Peter Robinson given the allegations surrounding Gerry Adams and his protection of a brother he believed guilty of child abuse. He tried to shift the subject other people’s obsession with his own paramilitary background (a rather unwise choice of consonance), the interview petered out shortly afterwards… If the BBC can put …

“If McGuinness was told what Adams knew when first he knew it, they share a problem”

With Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan still, apparently, unavailable to answer queries about the extent of Liam Adams’ involvement in the party in Co Louth, in the Irish Times Fionnuala O’Connor makes a sharp observation on the most recent photographic, and archived, evidence. From the Irish Times article The Sinn Féin figureheads built their joint image cannily. McGuinness came forward from the shadows of paramilitarism to stand at the right hand of Adams while the Belfastman talked “the movement” towards …

Gerry Adans should leave politics and attend to his shattered family

If Gerry Adams thinks the scandal of the alleged abuse of his niece has gone away, he can think again. Thomas Gagen a former leader writer for the Boston Globe argues that what he did in trying to keep the scandal quiet was akin to what the Catholic Church did in visiting Irish priests it suspected of being child abusers upon the US and then had them moved from parish to parish… Like the bishops, Adams kept quiet about his …

“Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan was last night unavailable to answer queries..”

And in related news, today’s Irish News notes Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan was last night unavailable to answer queries about the scale of Liam Adams’s involvement in the party in Co Louth. Now that there is photographic, and archived, evidence which contradicts his previous assertion that “Although [Liam Adams] was a party member, he was never an officer”, “He was not on the richter scale at all”… Pete Baker

On Adams, we are still being asked to believe not what we see but what we are told we should see…

Given the amount of stick Peter Robinson is getting from the MSM, I’d hate think what would have happened to him if it had been found he was shielding a brother he suspected of child abuse, and promoted him through the party ranks, and then persuaded a senior party front bencher to lie about it afterwards. If you read nothing else today, read Suzanne Breen’s excellent account of how Gerry Adams lied about his brother Liam’s role in the party …

“Liam didn’t gate-crash the canvass. Pretending he did is rewriting history.”

The Sunday Tribune follows up on last week’s photographs of Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams canvassing with his brother Liam in Dundalk in June 1997 with more photographic evidence of Liam Adams’ involvement in the Sinn Féin party structures. Contrary to what Louth Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan has said – “Although [Liam Adams] was a party member, he was never an officer”, “He was not on the richter scale at all.” – accompanying Martin McGuinness as he opened the …

Adams recommended his brother to candidature of a Dail seat in 1997…

So according to the Insight Special programme (and as noted first by Pete and now Suzy), Gerry Adams knew of his niece’s abuse at the hands of her father (his brother) for 22 years… So, why then, according to Anthony McIntyre, did Gerry Adams “promote a man who he firmly believed to be a child rapist as a possible contender for a Dail seat in 1997”? UPdate: IOL confirm what one of our commenters wje noted on Pete’s thread on …
