plus c’est la même chose…

Much of the media focus may be on the economic discussions in Dublin, and the former International Representative for west Belfast may be disappearing over the border… but some things don’t change.

The 25-year-old man shot in both legs in west Belfast on Thursday was the third instance of a paramilitary “vigilante” shooting in the city this week.

A man in his 20s was shot multiple times by three men wearing balaclavas who forced their way into a house in Brompton Park in the Ardoyne area on Monday night.

And an 18-year-old man was shot twice in each leg on Tuesday morning in a flat on the Antrim Road.

Update  Fourth such attack in just over a week.

A 48-year-old man has been shot in both knees in an attack in west Belfast.

The shooting took place just before 1600 GMT at Iveagh Parade.

  • Pete, you might as well throw in the £700k prison story for good measure.

It looks from both accounts that the paramilitaries are paying the same deference to the new policing and justice regime as they did to the old.

Move along. Noting to see here. Just nat/reps,doing what they do best….:-(

Serious question: Is it known if these attacks were carried out by dissidents?

  • MichaelMac

Quite a lot of the media are focusing on whether SF can pull off a spectacular victory in the Donegal SW by-election.

  • MichaelMac

The one at Brompton Pk was carried out by OnH.

  • Uglymaeirin

The attack on the Antrim Road/Newlodge, that being one unusually carried out in broad daylight at 10.30am – Another ÓnH job according to the local scéal at least !!

The shootings are depressing, aren’t they?

Paramilitaries on both sides have never really stopped

As far as regards the prison bill, it’s money well spent if it helps ensure prisoners’ rights and safeguard the prison staff.

It seems the lessons are never learned, whole communities were ruled by paramilitaries their word was lore, and it has been so discredited, but here we are more of the same an endless cycle of hurting Irish people.

  • My apologies. Here are the details of the prison story.

  • Nevin: Thanks for the very helpful link to the DUP site. It looked to me like they were holding up packets of Tayto potato crisps. Bobby, Denis and the boys would have approved of the cross border co-operation.
But not South Armagh who used to attack such acts of co-operation.
    But not Sands either.
Such mutilations are populasr in the locale, what with the breakdown of law and order. Sinn Fein used them extensively and cynically.

Dont know if it will be spectacular but I think they will win. If they cant win in todays circumstances they never will

It is beginning to look like a gang war, some sort of power struggle, maybe.
