New Event: Slugger End of Term Report Card. June 30th…

Monday the 30th of June 2025 – The Black Box Belfast. Doors open 6:45pm, show starts 7:30pm sharp.

As Stormont heads into its summer break, join us for an evening of sharp political insight, lively debate, and a few laughs as we reflect on the highs, lows, and head-scratchers of the year so far.

Our special guests are three of Northern Ireland’s sharpest political minds: Sam McBride, Northern Ireland Editor of the Belfast Telegraph, Professor Deirdre Heenan of Ulster University and Brendan Mulgrew (Commentator and ex Special Adviser). Alan Meban will be your host, referee, and occasional therapist for the evening.

Will Stormont earn a gold star this term, or is it another case of “has potential, must try harder”? Expect honest assessments, spirited discussion, and lots of therapeutic venting.

We’ll also widen the lens to cast an eye on some of the major international developments shaping the global political landscape in 2025.

Spaces are limited and our events always sell out – so book now to avoid disappointment.

For over 20 years, Slugger has been an independent place for debate and new ideas. We have published over 40,000 posts and over one and a half million comments on the site. Each month we have over 70,000 readers. All this we have accomplished with only volunteers we have never had any paid staff.

Slugger does not receive any funding, and we respect our readers, so we will never run intrusive ads or sponsored posts. Instead, we are reader-supported. Help us keep Slugger independent by becoming a friend of Slugger. While we run a tight ship and no one gets paid to write, we need money to help us cover our costs.

If you like what we do, we are asking you to consider giving a monthly donation of any amount, or you can give a one-off donation. Any amount is appreciated.
