That “Islam is a doctrine spawned in hell” sermon

As the DUP have now entered the fray over the publicity around the anti-Islam sermon preached by Pastor McConnell, here’s a transcript of the extract that is under discussion:

I know the time will come in this land, in this land, Protestant Ulster, so-called Protestant Ulster, so-called evangelical Ulster, even Billy Graham said that Northern Ireland was the last bastion of the Gospel … but … I know the time will come in this land and in this nation, to say such things will be an offence to the law. It would be reckoned erroneous, unpatriotic. But I am in good company. The company of Luther and Knox and Calvin and Tindale and Lattimer and Cramner and Wesley and Spurgeon and such like.

The Muslim religion was created many hundreds of years after Christ. Mohammed the Islam prophet was born around the year AD 570 but Muslims believe that Islam is the true religion dating back to Adam and that the biblical patriarchs were all Muslims including Noah and Abraham and Moses and even our Lord Jesus Christ.

Today we see powerful evidence that more and more of Muslims are putting the quorums [sic: he means Q’uran] hatred of Christians and Jews alike into practice. Now people say there are good Muslims in Britain — that may be so — but I don’t trust them. Enoch Powell was right and he lost his career because of it. Enoch Powell was a prophet and he told us that blood would flow in the streets and it has happened.

Fifteen years ago Britain was concerned of IRA cells. Right throughout the nation they done a deal with the IRA because they were frightened of being bombed.

Today a new evil has arisen — there are cells of Muslims right throughout Britain — can I hear an amen?

[At this point the congregation return a weak-sounding amen]

Right throughout Britain and this nation is going to enter into a great tribulation and a great trial.

To judge by some of what I have heard in the past few months, you would think that Islam was little more than a variation of Christianity and Judaism. Not so. Islam’s ideas about God, about humanity, about salvation are vastly different from the teaching of the Holy Scriptures. Islam is heathen, Islam is satanic, Islam is a doctrine spawned in hell.

David has more detail on what Peter Robinson said in response today (and Nolan is to deal with the topic tonight). In the light of the reality and prevalence of racist attacks in Belfast and elsewhere in the north, this isn’t a subject to be taken in any way lightly.
