IMC report on Bobby Moffett’s murder

The Belfast Telegraph is reporting that the Independent Monitoring Commission’s investigation into the murder of Bobby Moffett has concluded that his murder was sanctioned by the UVF leadership. Ex UVF prisoner leaves PUP

The News letter has a story today that another PUP member has left. Tommy Sandford who is an ex loyalist prisoner and was the sole PUP councillor for Castlereagh for one term from 2001 until his defeat in 2005 (there are none now) has resigned. Fancy a conspiracy theory? Take your pick

A car appears on the Shankill Road and leaflets are thrown from it naming many dissenting republicans, it happens at the junction of Lanark Way leading into Republican West Belfast. These leaflets are subsequently posted on lampposts and walls across loyalist areas. They give names of numerous people described as dissident republicans, CIRA, RIRA, criminals etc. Some suggest the names may have been gathered by a ‘republican’ group and delivered direct to loyalists in the crudist of fashions. The BBC report that, following a Policing Board meeting, Assistant Chief Constable Drew Harris has said that UVF sanctioning of the murder of Bobby Moffett was “an active line of enquiry”. Additionally, from the same BBC report ACC Harris said the UVF remained a coherent organisation. “The UVF remains very much an organised entity. “So I wouldn’t recognise a description which described them as being fractured in any way. They are a group which still has its own internal discipline intact.” …

Five days after the murder of Bobby Moffatt – claims of UVF involvement and mass intimidation of people in the Shankill area but Slugger’s expanded team has managed a grand total of one blog on the subject. Pity it wasn’t a friend of someone related to a 2nd cousin of a sister of a guy that used to know Gerry Adams’, joiner’s sacked plumber’s, former school friend – that would have warranted many blogs. UVF breach cease-fire?

According to the Guardian’s Henry McDonald, the man shot dead on Belfast’s Shankill Road has been “named locally as Bobby Moffat, [and] is understood to have been a member of the Red Hand Commando (RHC) terrorist group.”  The short Guardian report adds It is believed Moffat was killed as part of an internal loyalist dispute and there was no Republican involvement. Police erect a cordon in Holywood…

Apparently the PSNI got wind of UVF plans to move their operations to Holywood. As a result they have blocked off three entrances to the White City Estate for most of the day checking for known UVF members and turning them back. It is rumoured that one family has moved out, possibly due to several UVF men slipping through before the cordon was erected. Bizarrely perhaps, it is thought that the LVF in Holywood contains several Catholic members. As one …
