Evidence received by the RHI Public Inquiry suggests that the overspend was not the £490m originally forecast. Slugger understands whilst there was a deficit of £23m – £29m for 2015-17, there was a break-even of income against operating cost liabilities last year.
Prior to 2015 DofE (NI) was obliged to hand unclaimed budget back to the Treasury in each year since the beginning of the scheme. In other words, the problem was fixed before Stormont was summarily collapsed by Sinn Féin. Words. Just. Fail. Me.
