Every cloud has a silver lining! 🙂

  • Zorin001

Probably the case that going under the knife yourself is less painful than pulling MLA’s teeth in Stormont.

  • Can’t say I thought much of him, then again Villiers and Paterson were hardly towering figures either. Any news of a replacement?

  • Brian O’Neill

Some form of inanimate object? A kettle would be useful…

  • hgreen

Not sure how we are gonna cope.

  • the keep

I hope he recovers well from his operation.

  • Obelisk

Who has annoyed Theresa May most in cabinet in the past few months to qualify for a posting here?

  • Obelisk

Brokenshire was an out of his depth incompetent but I hope he recovers from his health issues and wish him well in that regard.

  • Skibo

I wonder has Theresa realised how important it is to get the talks back on line in the interest of Brexit? Is she now going to put in a real political heavy weight to now get things resolved or are we going to get another crash test dummy

  • Georgie Best

You are too kind. Villiers and Paterson with their Brexit nonsense and their mendacious minimisation of problems in NI, which they claim to be “familiar with”, have done huge damage.
Brokenshire didn’t do anything, but that is better than damage.

  • hgreen

Wonder if it has been cancelled?

  • Georgie Best
  • Cory Kelly

Absolutely wish him well with his health issues and hopefully we will get somone in his place who will agree to hold a border poll in about 18 months or so.

  • Jeff

Think your going to be disappointed on that one Cory

  • Nap McCourt

Wishing Mr Brokenshire all the best with his health matters.

  • murdockp

Brokenshire, the only person ever to have a name that matches what Northern Ireland actually, I We wish him well

However part of me was wondering if he may have brought forward his decision when he and his family saw the SF MP balancing a loaf of bread on his head over the week end and though ‘why am I doing this job, my health is far more than putting up with this nonsense’

  • murdockp

Unfair, you could put Barack Obama in at the same point in time and he would be crying into his hands after a year wondering what is wrong with these people.

  • pat

hope he recovers quickly from his illness, but he really got the boot he was as much use as an ash-tray on a motor bike. Villiers and Paterson were just the same, no friends of Nationalist Ireland, good riddance

  • Obelisk

Not unfair at all. He spent a year warning of dire consequences if there was no solution at the talks and each time he kicked the can down the road as he was unprepared and unwilling to tackle those consequences. He also compromised the public pretense of neutrality the SoS should at least attempt to project through his intervention on troubles related investigations involving British soldiers.

  • Cadogan West

I gather he may possibly have a pulmonary nodule. BMJ has published many papers on them. I hope he finds a good Consultant. The May Cabinet is certainly imploding just as Morgan Stanley predicted, I doubt there will be anyone left by Easter the reshuffle is a shambles. That shambolic Twitter account said Grayling is Chairman then it was corrected. If they cannot work SM properly they don’t deserve to stay in power, Corbyn’s lot are far more SM savvy, but I would not want him as he has form supporting the wrong set in NI.

  • Cadogan West

Nope no hope of a BP at all even if Corbyn gets in, the word is Consent and scores on the doors.

  • Cadogan West

Terri is not a multi skiller in Tescos she can only do Brexit. NI is on the back burner just a side show.

  • Cadogan West

No he will go Private not NHS!

  • Skibo

NI is still one of the strands of the December agreement that has to be ratified in legislation prior to the talks phase 2 starting.

  • Cadogan West

Her electorate are mostly in England, no votes in NI, phase 1 is still as clear as mud if you read HP Sauce in the last issue of PE.

  • Skibo

I would tend to agree. Written in such a way to mean all things to all people.

  • Skibo

What about Boris for the new SOS? If anything it would be interesting.

  • Korhomme

    A pulmonary nodule of what?

  • Aarrnn

Likewise, never would wish ill on someone’s health.

  • Cory Kelly

Yes probably be more like three years. Never mind.

  • Berlin Calling

Looks like Karen Bradley will be his replacement. Best o’ luck folks.

  • Cadogan West
  • Cadogan West

You are a real comedian, NI is like the Russian Front.

  • Cadogan West

Make it 300 more like or the next Millenium at this rate

  • Korhomme

The New Scientist refers, tongue firmly in cheek, to people whose name reflects their profession as ‘nominative determinism’.

  • Korhomme

A nodule is no more than a ‘little lump’; it says nothing about the diagnosis. It might be a ‘lesion’ which also tells you nothing other than it is probably pathological.

  • Cadogan West

Exactly, he is having a CT etc. Could be benign are you a physician ? I own an IVD firm spanning NI ROI, Denmark and Austria, molecular diagnostics is my field.

  • Cadogan West

They would not be that daft, or would they, who knows who will end up with NI. I would rather not know their name or origin like Lohengrin.

  • Cadogan West

Private Eye Column HP Sauce is on the ball.

  • Cadogan West

She is being investigated over a TV Licence for her constituency office!

  • Cadogan West

No background to NI/ROI has she ever been across the Irish sea ?

  • John

Her sins must be grave indeed.

  • SeaanUiNeill

I am reminded of that mention of the NI office in “The Thick of It”..,

  • Korhomme

I got a PE subscription as a Christmas present 😀

  • puffin

As if we didn’t already know that, don’t for gods sake embarrass yourself anymore by displaying your ignorance.

  • Berlin Calling

    Which one?

  • pat

did he really know about the reshuffle well in advance and along came an opportunity to get out of the stalemate personally as he knew he could not make progress, he was really a lame duck

  • Cadogan West

Never assume anything old boy some folk may not know, have you set up a business, no. Ignorance Puffin is evident for your comment.
