The Great Pretender lives on!

This one is espically for Fitzjameshorse, were you at the wedding?

The Duchess of Alba, one of Spain’s richest and most flamboyant women, has got married again at the age of 85 to a civil servant 24 years her junior.

The aristocrat married Alfonso Diez Carabantes at a palace in Seville, emerging to throw her wedding bouquet into the crowd and dance flamenco.

The duchess, who has a record number of noble titles, had to overcome her children’s suspicions about the union.

According to Guinness World Records, the duchess – whose full name is Maria del Rosario Cayetana Alfonsa Victoria Eugenia Francisca Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva – has more titles recognised by an existing government than any other noble.

Ah, but does her list of titles include ‘The Greatest Peacemaker of All Time’?

    I think not!

  • Remember being in Barcelona when the local Basketball hero married a Royal princess Christina Inaxa, I think was her name . We were having a casual conversation with some Basques who were in Barcelona on holiday and I joked that they were really here for the wedding. One of them, an old guy, had to be restrained from hitting me he was so incensed.

It seems my whimsy is not welcome anywhere.

  • Ah Drumlins Rock,
My Jacobite credentials are not entirely accepted by my Jacobite “friends”. Posting a scale model of the execution of Charles I was deemed an act of Regicide. Not to mention my support for the French Revolution, my time at Maynooth, subverting my loyalty to my legitimate sovreign and I have also betrayed the Irish race, made a mockery of a honoured Jacobite name (FitzjamesHorse) by linking Ernesto Che Guevara Lynch as a son of the Wild Geese on my website.
I have also dishonoured Jacobitism by pointing out that the Bavarian (previously Portuguese) Embassy Church near Piccadilly Circus is now the centre of outreach to Londons Catholic Gay, Lesbian and Transgenedered Community.
My crimes against Jacobitism know no limits. Being a Republican I have gone past the neo-Whiggism liberal Orange philosophy (sic) and embraced Satanism……as you recall Satan was the first recorded Republican.
Perhaps an even more interesting piece of Jacobite news is that the third in line to the Three Thrones Prince Josef Wenzel is now a pupil at Malvern College in Worcestershire.
Surprisingly perhaps he is not regarded as a threat to the current usurping Windsors…..perhaps MI5 dont know.Jacobites naturally hope this will instill a great love of his Kingdoms and peoples in the young prince. And initiate a desire to claim his Kingdoms.

Another royal pupil (real one not the Windsors) at Malvern was Prince Gennaro de Bourbon, Prince of the Two Sicilies who now runs a Gym in Worcester.
In other Jacobite news……The Stuart Agenda (Alan Calder), a novel set in 2045 is released.
Meanwhile you will be saddened to learn of the death…….
of His Imperial Highness Felix Friedrich August Maria vom Siege Franz Joseph Peter Karl Anton Robert Otto
Pius Michael Benedikt Sebastian Ignatius Marcus d’Aviano, Archduke of Austria,
Royal Prince of Hungary and Bohemia, Knight of the Sovereign Order of Saint Johnof Jerusalem,Knight of the Holy Spirit, Rhodes and Malta……in Mexico City on 7th Sept 2011 (aged 96).
A sad year for Jacobites as The All Highest Emperor Otto (I couldnt be bothered to list all his titles) died aged 98….. although he actually gave up his claim to the Austrian throne and became an Austrian citizen…….this is something Jacobites only recognise as a tactic (you cant give up a calling from GOD after all).
The All Highest was actually a Member of the European Parliament but thats ok cos its really the Holy Roman Empire anyway. And his birthright. Er….Obviously.

And an implacable opponent of Orangeism (er so the Jacobites say) he was the MEP who snached that “The Pope is An AntiChrist” banner from Paisley when the Pope addressed the European Parliament.

Ah Drumlins Rock, youd be surprised at just how many weirdos I mean Jacobites there are out there.
And the Duchess of Alba is one of the sane ones.

  • Ah, yes! The degenerate spawn of Arabella Churchill! Now there’s a family descent to explore.

Every time I visit my a local pub I see Arabella’s portrait; and muse on how shamefully she is treated by wikipedia (memo to self: do something about it).

There is a local connection: Arabella’s dad was Sir Winston Churchill (not that one!). So she spent some time in Ireland when Da was running the estates of James, Duke of York. Since Ma was a Drake from Devon (the lot who had the blistering row with Sir Francis when he nicked the family coat-of-arms), there may well be other Irish connections.

In passing, like fitzjameshorse1745 @ 6:09 pm I am baffled how the Bourbons, Hohenzollerns and such like remember all their given names — or how this lady in question lists all her “titles”, which include being Duchess of Berwick, I believe. Her (somewhat improved?) image confuses me: she looks astonishingly like Sir Simon Rattle.

Also in passing, may I assume a Joseph [rectè ?] Wenzel (one of the Liechtenstein Wenzels?) must somehow be linked to the Czech Radetzky of March fame. And only at Malvern? How oikish! Inbred shower, anyway.

  • Ah……alumni at Malvern include……
    Prince Ernst August of Hannover
    Prince Christian of ditto
    Archduke Joachim of Austria-Este.

no oiks there. But one of them cant remember which one was booted out for pot smoking. Which is pretty aristocratic.

Josef Wenzel is from Liechtenstein, a model in Jacobite minds of how a nation should be run. Those nasty Germans (ie the illegitimate de facto German Republic) are putting pressure on Liechtenstein to give the names etc of tax dodgers who bank there.
One of my many crimes against Jacobitism is a declaration that our Jacobite heirs facilitate money laundering…on an industrial scale.

  • “there may well be other Irish connections”

Indeed there are. James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick married Lady Honora Burke. Lady Honora’s father was William Burke, 7th Earl of Clanricarde. Her maternal grandfather was created 1st Earl of MacCarty by King Charles II. Her maternal grandmother was Eleanor Butler, sister of James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde.

The Duchess of Alba is a 14th Cousin, twice removed of my wife. Now there’s an Irish connection.

  • Lady Honora Burkes first husband was Patrick Sarsfield.

The regiment Fitzjames Horse owes little to the 1st Duke or Honora de Burgh.
Regiments were named for Colonol Proprietors.
FitzjamesHorse became such in May 1733. The Colonel Proprietor was actually Charles duc de Fitzjames, fifth son of the 1st Duke and his second wife Anne Bulkeley of another prominent Wild Geese family.
The regiment had been originally formed in Sept 1691 from the remnants of the Kings & Queens (sic) Cavalry.
Re-Organised as Sheldons Irish Horse (Feb 1698) and Nugents Horse (1706-1733) with the Nugent family continuing to “Captain” several Troop thru to disbandment in 1761.

  • “there may well be other Irish connections”

    [Wry smile here.]

Why did I suspect those responses would be forthcoming?

I hadn’t expected them stereophonically, however.

Nice to know you’re there, chaps. Keep up the good work.

I reckon, with a bit of effort (and stotally tober) I could offer at least a couple more.

For example, the gorgeous Duchess’s first husband was Pedro Martinez de Irujo y Artazcoz — I wouldn’t want a Spanish speaker relating that to me unless I had a towel to hand. Said Pedro was the great-grandson of Sally McKean, and thereby descended from a signatory (and a second-generation Ulster emigrant —his parents, just possibly, a “mixed-marriage”) of the American Declaration of Independence.

  • I read somewhere that we actually have more ancestors than people who actually ever lived………….or am I just making it up? Dunno but it almost makes sense.

  • I am happy to report that The Restoration of the House of Stuart is now the subject of an “e-petition” which if it gathers 100,000 signatures before 5 October 2012 can be debated in House of Commons.

Not so happy to report that only 99,999 signatures are required.

  • Drumlins Rock

almost tempted to sign it fitzy!

Am I right the Fitzjames male line is going to die out with its current generation?

All we need not is for one of the Duchesses children, or heirs even better, to marry into The O’Neil clan of Spain or Portugal.

  • Seymour Major

Given your wife’s connection to the Duchess, grateful if you could put a word in about my Alba music centre. It’s out of warranty and nobody will touch it. Thanks in anticipation..

  • I honestly dont know. I think theres still a few hanging around Spain.
Im kinda surprised that there seems to be only one signature as its the kinda thing that Scottish, Welsh and English republicans as well as Guardian readers could use to cause just a wee bit of mischief.

Modern Jacobites are in the best traditions of English Jacobites “all mouth and trousers”. They like to pretend that the silence on his “claim” indicates regal dignity of His Majesty (sic) but in reality the poor man is pretty harmless and the last thing he wants is to pay any attention to his most loyal nutters.

The loyal Jacobites regard the House of Commons as an illegal institution and they would not sign a “petition” to get something like an absolute entitlement.
This does not stop them reading the Daily Telegraph and voting Conservative and looking like they are auditioning as extras in a Jeeves and Wooster TV drama.
Its also a fact that the Jacobite “petition” if properly organised could be a bigger fun event than the Olympics.
