Great BIG Politics Quiz: tickets now on sale!

Former (edit: see comment #1) Belfast City Councillor Niall Kelly reckons the SDLP South Belfast team are out to retain their Great Big Politics Quiz champions title:

I know that ballot box brainiacs from other parties, campaign groups, public affairs companies and the media will be out to prove him wrong. Indeed, there might even be the odd blogger who fancies getting a team together for a tilt at the title.

Well you can all now pre-book your places as ticket sales are now open for this year’s event – to take place on Thursday 22 September in the Black Box, Belfast – and brought to you once again with the support of the nice folk at Slugger O’Toole and Stratagem (who have kindly offered another brilliant star prize for the winning team) and raising more money to build homes in Haiti.

There’ll be questions on local, national and international politics; political history; politics in popular culture … and other stuff.

Some of Northern Ireland’s best-known politicians will do a sideline as quiz-masters for the evening. Tim McGarry will be saying some funny things.

We’re raising money for a desperately needed house-building project in Haiti, run by the Haven Partnership. Volunteers from Northern Ireland and the Republic are heading to Haiti at the end of October to team up with local people to build homes for those left homeless by the devastating earthquake or otherwise living in conditions no-one should have to endure.

Anyway, time to get your team sorted and tickets booked as the Black Box has only a limited capacity. You have been warned!

Stay tuned to Slugger O’Toole for updates.

The same day as Arthur’s Day and an Ash concert … not directly unrelated of course?

  • lamhdearg

    Any room for observers.

  • fitzjameshorse1745 – thanks for correction; post duly updated.

lamhdearg – observers welcome; seme entry fee applies 🙂

Would love to go. Take it they are 4 man teams, anybody fancy getting together to form one,
Could make it across the board call it the orange green born again catholic atheist gay straight alliance, catchy what.

  • Mark McGregor

    Carl,

Teams can be arranged on the night for anyone that doesn’t have enough anorak friends (probably a good sign!)

  • Unlikely to have any SDLP-orientated teams on 22nd September. Most SDLP people will be in a different part of Belfast.
So…a new team will be winning the Slugger Prize.

  • FuturePhysicist

Well the SDLP youth group meeting takes place the same day but a lot earlier.

I might show up and track down loose ends for a Coalition of the (un-)Willing quiz team. See Carl, better name.
