I wonder what they’ll spend the money on……

It’s just been announced that the Ulster Museum has won the Art Fund prize of £100,000. Congratulations are in order but it does beg the question  can the Museum and trustees spend the prize as they wish or does the Minister for Culture & Arts  Nelson McCausland have the final say so?

Would a simple congratulations not surfice Mooch, without making this into a political slanging match? I really must get down to visit it soon.

  • Kevin McIlhennon

Drumlin, it’s very obvious that Mooch was saying it tongue in cheek. Take a chill pill.

I voted for the museum as we visited it on the last day of the vote. Congrats to all the staff. I do think there is a lot of unused space in the building. There are many potential exhibitions eg Gallaghers tobacco. The Mills. More artefacts from the “troubles” etc

  • Drumlin…I wasn’t looking to start a slanging match but it’s a genuine question that sprang to my mind, who decides how the money is spent? And yes you should get down a have a look.

    What Joe said 🙂

Excellent news – voted for the museum and in my comments pointed out that winning the prize would be a great riposte to the vile stupidity of McCausland et al.

  • It’s a great win for the museum. Sure there’s room for improvement, but the reopened museum is a great place, and my daughter loves it!

I’d love part of the money to be spent on a 8m tall glittering unicorn – My Little Pony-style – that could be suspended above the main atrium.

    Canadian!!!! LOL

  • Big Maggie

LOL I’d go for a 3x larger than life model of the Odontochelys. That would sicken the fundies.

    Congrats to the UM!
