Christine and Colin make star status

Christine is to  rejoin  Adrian on GMTV as Colin replaces Adrian on Match of the Day as Christine pines for Frank – or not? Young Ulster stars  right up there among the celebs and  the big money.  With Jonathan Ross as  the  awful warning,  Christine’s smiley PR about  loving the Beeb is actually  hard  headed.   But  900k from the Beeb  versus £2 million a year from GMTV  is  a no brainer, luv, and you know it!    Just think of the rest of us in these hard times as you giggle your way through the early mornings.

ITV versus BBC? regardless of salary, I’d take BBC.

She tried to play both and good on the BBC for not bowing down to it.

  • slug

A mistake to attach herself to Adrian Chiles.

I did enjoy this Wildean critique from the Guardian:

“To lose one presenter of The One Show may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.”

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/jun/21/adrian-chiles-christine-bleakley-itv-bbc

The Beeb did think they knew how to tempt regional talent:

“The BBC also offered her a stint on Countryfile”

It might have worked for Michelle Gildernew.

Cant say Im a big fan of TV people who sit on sofas.
Nor of The One Show which is “Nationwide” for slow learners. .so to speak.
The part of Richard Stilgoe is played by Gyles Brandreth.
Not a big fan of Christine but she will survive until she goes the way of Fiona Phillips and gets the Oil of Ulay gig.

Colin Murray….all blokey an all…..but that accent will get him in the end. A Norn Iron accent is acceptable when coming from Christine Bleakley, Zoe Salmon or annita McVeigh…..but a fella like me just has an accent that sounds threatening to Middle England.
So I fully expect Colin Murray to end up with a glorious (network) BBC career as Gerry Anderson.

  • Johnny Boy

Never been a great fan of Colin Murray (something about hearing your own accent coming at you from the stupid box), but I have to admit, I think he is doing a pretty good job on the World Cup show.

  • fitzjameshorse1745

Well it was obvious he would get the MOTD gig….so that along with Lawrenson and Hanson, he can make up a full set of Liverpool supporters.
    Typical BBC bias.

  • Jerry’s superciliousness did for him on the box not his accent.
I do quite like him on the radio and he does play some great music.
Christine will do alright and good luck to her

  • Re-engaged

Obviously not listening to the radio alot – Radio 1 early afternoon slot with Edith the most successful – on Radio 5 live for 4 years for an hour every Saturday, Sunday sports coverage on same network, Channel 5 coverage of UEFA / Europa Cup – FJH – where have you been living – the networks cannot get enough of him, Gerry’s downfall was himself!

  • Rory Carr

Yes…poor Gerry Anderson, he has never quite been able to reprise the glory days of Thunderbirds.

Still, it’s nice to see that the actress who played Lady Penelope went on to a successful career recreating herself as Christine Blakely.

  • fitzjameshorse1745

Ah Rory Carr……I knew one of us couldnt resist the Thunderbirds thing…..it was an act of willpower on my part not to mention it.
But youre wrong …..Lady Penelope did not become Christine Bleakley. There is a big difference. One of them is a wooden puppet………and the other one had a chauffeur called Parker.

  • Didlee D O’Squat

If only she had been called Coleen O Bléakléy perhaps then she could have found a place in the heart of slugger O’toole.

  • Rory Carr

Not in this case, Didlee. I’m afraid that this rose by any other name would not delight the olefactory sense. Not to say that she’s not a handsome wench by any account.

  • slug

Sean Rafferty and Stephen Nolan are also longstanding NI accents on the BBC. Not to mention that Radio 4 newsreader.

  • fitzjameshorse1745

Exactly………….apparently Scottish and Irish accents are soothing in “Call Centres”. Or more accurately SOME Scottish and Irish accents are “soothing”.
Some accents like Colin Murrays….no doubt appropriate on that blokey sports quiz thing he does (still?) on a Saturday around 11am are not going to go down well with Middle England on MOTD. That kinda accent just sounds threatening to English folks.
Sean Raffertys accent is non threatening.

  • kells

    Two muppets!

  • Gerry Lvs Castro

Looks increasingly unlikely that the Belfast Telegraph are ever going to be able to run an edition without a wee piece on ‘our Christine.’

The multi-tasking talent-free wannabee wag sits on a couch simpering at guests while eyeing up her money for old rope salary. Newtownards must be so proud.

  • Big Maggie

It’s truly extraordinary how a modicum of talent can set the couch potatoes a’boiling.

  • PJ_Maybe

Anita McVeigh? Ahh she’s come a long way from those interminable articles about the Travellers on the Glen Road. I’m sure Maggie Taggart wonders where it all went wrong……

  • fitzjameshorse1745

Mid 1960s Maggie Taggart used to do the Charts on UTV…which was dead easy cos “This World Is Not My Home” by Jim Reeves was always #1.
Annita McVeigh has indeed come a long way from the discos in Drumsill House.
