Sinn Féin leadership have tea in Downing St

The BBC notes that Sinn Féin’s Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness were in Downing St today. The topics they wanted to talk to the Prime Minister about, we are told, were the proposals for a Northern Ireland Bill of Rights [Going nowhere fast – Ed], the Saville Inquiry’s report [It’s with the lawyers – Ed] and “the role of British Intelligence” [Drop by anytime! – Ed]. And, for the benefit of clarity, the “Northern Ireland deputy First Minister” was not involved in the discussions.

I was at a Sinn Fein organised debate in the late 90s where the invited guest speaker was one Liam Clarke of the Sunday Times now “traitor extraordanaire”.
Michael’s a spoof poster, but funny. Good night.

  • socaire

I only hope he is a spoof. Imagine if he was real.

SF/PIRA certainly took a hell of a turn on their journey from December 1969 but isn’t it possible, indeed inviting, to assess where they got to as evidence not so much of treachery but rather of the reality that their republican convictions weren’t really that deep to begin with. As others have said, what the Provos campaign was actually about, behind the rhetoric about direct lineage from ’16, ’19 and ’21, was civil rights (specifically, for northern catholics) by wholly inappropriate means ? And thus, the Provos are the dissidents, the elitist death cult morons of RIRA/CIRA the traditionalists and ‘real’ Repubicans.

i helped familys carry coffins, then volunteers fired the salute, war is war, peace is peace.

  • socaire

    …………..and shite is shite.

  • Michaelhenry

so you were not involved socaire,no surprize that you are now hardline.

  • old school

In hindsight the Provos were not against British Rule, but rather “how the British ruled”.
If only the RUC changed their name, donned baseball caps and played Gaelic football in the early 70s, a lot of people would be alive today.

  • old school

Thats should read “an element of the Provos”.

  • Michaelhenry

you still love the provos old school, your not that bad then.

The SMART Money is on them using Intelligence to Provide the Future, socaire, for the Technology and Methodology exists for ITs Product Placement with Media carrying the Broad Band Pictures which Present the IntelAIgently Designed Reality, Virtually. And should you be thinking that that is more Hollywood than Holywood, then you are misunderestimating the most advanced Special Intelligence Service available anywhere, which may or may not be from a shiny new building Loughside, for where do you imagine their vision comes from?

And it is most odd that the Office of the First and Deputy First Ministers have not been sharing that with y’all, as it is known to them, for it has been sent to them ……. which does then have one questioning the level of their Intelligence and Suitability for Leading Office, although of course, maybe they just need a little guidance/mentoring and a tad more information/intelligence supplied to them for them to more fully understand what Services are freely available to AId them.

The Past is Dead. Bury it and Build the Future with IT and Use your Imagination for Nothing is Impossible …… for you can Be Both Sure and Assured that that is what IT is Doing for You if you are not SMART enough yourselves or are Stuck in the Past with Unpleasant Memories. The Future does not contain anything like that and will always refuse to accept it a legitimate fare for Presentation to Following Generations.

No but she still has a say in the appointment of the Police Ombudsman Michaelhenry…Not a lot of Shinners know that! Or do they?

The Minister of Justice is responsible for the process of appointing the Police Ombudsman (“PONI”) and for sponsoring his/her office (although the appointment is made formally by HM The Queen on the recommendation of the First Minister and deputy First Minister).

“Ernie O’Malley has a piece on the Treaty, quoting the late Sean mcBride, as he stood behind Mick Collins (O’Malley detested him, the Gerry of his day). Lloyd George put his hand around him and asked him to help rule the Empire with him”

That’s complete bullshit. NEver happened. Neither McBride or O’malley were ever in the same room or city as George. And george would not say that, he knew Collins feelings on the thing. What complete slander.

I forgot to add, know your history

The Provos will and have deliverd peace,I am or was never a member of the Provos.I consider myself a republican socialist.I found it very difficult to agree with the Provos, but I accept the war was jot of their making, when they got involved after the split, they reacted,to all the bigotry, the gerrymandering, the ignorance of the brits that supported a state built on discrimation. When the ceased the went political, and this is just another weapon used for to gain an Irish Rebublic. As one that suffered and whos family as suffered I welcome peace.I think everyone should.

  • john

I completely agree with you, we have peace (for most of us) and we are within sight of a unified Ireland.
