Heineken Cup -Weekend 5

We’ll get a good idea of who is going through after this weekend’s games. Great win for Ulster who are still in with a chance. Wheels have come off for the Dragons. Crucial Ospreys game in France this afternoon.
Results and fixtures below.

Tables Here

Glasgow 29-25 Newport-Gwent Dragons
Ulster 21-13 Edinburgh
Cardiff Blues 36-19 Sale
Clermont Auvergne 27-7 Ospreys
Gloucester 23-8 Biarritz
Leicester 47-8 Viadana

Stade Francais 15-13 Bath

Toulouse 33-21 Harlequin

Forecast Qualifiers:

Looks like Biarritz, Toulouse, Clermont, Munster, Leinster and Stade Francais as winners:

2 best runners up : Leicester or Ospreys and the second depends on Northampton getting a point at Munster.(if Leinester beat London Irish)..and a pile of other stuff involving Ulster, the Blues, the Scarlets and some other teams – arithmetic a little complicated…

  • the future is bright the future is orange

another enjoyable night at a wet and windy ravenhill last night. Super first half performance againt a gale won the game.
I’d say we’re out of the heiny but we’re improving every week and have a very talented bunch of home grown players so looking good for next year.
I expect Leinster and Munster to win comfortably this weekend.

Bath very close to causing an upset against Stade today to put us in the driving seat; but not close enough. We’d better hope Embra don’t roll over next week.

Updated with today’s results – Ospreys really needed an away point. Blues impressive though.

  • the future is bright the future is orange

sammy: embra can still pip us for 2nd place which cold possibly be enough for them to qualify for the amblin competition so I think they will be all out to beat stade. Stade are not a great side and edinburgh are a tough side to beat. Bath have nothing to play for so I’m hoping they rest some key players for our visit. Extremely unlikely that we get through but there is a glimmer of hope.

Great effort in the first half – very similar to the Leinster game.

Embra were a touch fortunate in that the conditions abated somewhat for the 2nd half although to be fair, they also played the conditions fairly well. Enthralling game of rugby and kudos to both sides.

Updated with qualification predictions (after a fashion)

Ospreys and Northants are favourites for the final 2 spots.

I’d settle for an Amblin Cup Q/F at Connaught for Ulster.

Piss poor showing in the HC from the mighty Guinness Premiership so far.

Northampton to get a point in Limerick?

  • Anarchrist

Northampton may scrape through with 18 points. Leinster will be keen to beat Irish to secure a home Q/F. Doubt if Ulster can secure a BP win and Blues may also struggle to secure 5 points. Sale are unlikely to get much from Toulouse and Scarlets have a negative points difference. It’s rather complicated.
