A Prayer for Ted Kennedy

They are laying Ted Kennedy to rest today.

For those of us in search of reflection from this great distance here is Rev. Gerry Creedon’s opening prayer at the memorial service last night.

  • Gréagoir O Frainclín

Huge crowds have turned out in the States for vigils etc… in honour of the man, so he must have done something good in his political life(despite that shady sinister incident of his past where Nancy Jo Kopechne tragically drowned).

I noted Unionists here on Slugger were all too willing to denigrate the man because of that awful incident….and of course that would not have been the case had it been a member of English royalty instead.

A fitting tribute to a great man. He can only be with God now.

  • G. Weightman

“A fitting tribute to a great man. He can only be with God now.”

    I hope so. Because if Teddy’s in heaven, I’m a shoo-in.

    Gragoir,

“and of course that would not have been the case had it been a member of English royalty instead”

Would you like to explain exactly what contribution to remembering Ted Kennedy this rather nasty and gratuitous part of your last post made? I am an ungrudging admirer of his, but I have not read any significant obituary piece about him over the last few days which did not (and quite rightly) make reference to Chappaquiddick. I am not, by contrast, a particular admirer of the House of Windsor; but how in under God do you know that Sluggerites of a Unionist disposition would not, on his or her passing, identify any similar – and I quote you – “shady sinister incident” by “a member of the English [British surely?] royalty”. Indeed, would you like to give us an example of any incident involving one of the Brit royals which is of similar significance?

    Decent man.No less,no more.Just my opinion.
But a better man- in that he would have allowed that opinion.

  • Thank you to all who came here just to remember.

Interesting that the Church would not allow the Cathedral to be used for the funeral.
I believe that this was in relation to his high profile support for abortion and other issues like allowing gay marriage and euthanasia.

First of all there aint no god above me. Obviously ye haven’t read the other sarcastic contibutions by Unionists on the other threads regarding the late Ted Kennedy and indeed the Kennedy family over the years here on Slugger, because of their Irish Catholic connections of course.

Regarding the English royals but it is indeed a case that they can do no wrong in Unionists eyes as was the case when Unionists were falling over each other here on Slugger to defend the antics and rather racist comments of a young English prince a while ago.
