“Let’s take that at face value..”

After yesterday’s discussion on the Politics Show the leaked proposals from the Consultative Group on the Past featured on Stormont Live today – the ‘bad bank’ option for the “toxic debt” of those poisonous foundations. Below the fold the UUP’s Tom Elliot and the Alliance Party’s David Ford discuss the proposals. You’ll also find below the fold Northern Ireland junior Minister, Sinn Féin’s Gerry Kelly, emphasising the importance of truth recovery [Half-truth? Or less than half-truth? – Ed]. But even he couldn’t keep a straight face when attempting to correct Jim Fitzpatrick’s suggestion that we have FOUR Victims Commissioners only because the DUP and Sinn Féin couldn’t agree on ONE. Naturally, justice is conspicuous by it’s absence.. And not because it’s invisible.

Northern Ireland junior Minister, Sinn Féin’s Gerry Kelly, on the need for an emphasis on truth recovery..

What in the name of God does Gerry Kelly know about justice or the rights of victims? his form of justice is to shoot prison officers in the head.

UMH, it was a war. One was a prison officer soldier and the other one was a, err, scumbag soldier. In war that’s what happens scumbag soldiers shoot captured unarmed men in the face.

That’s the truth for today, live with it.

If it’s a war, it’s about time we had Adams, McGuinness and Co. charged for War Crimes!

Unlike politicians victims families cannot be bought wholesale at any price.
The Brit Govt may in the long run ditch these pay outs to families, but later offer a multi million pound pay out to the Assembly to help do away with what the Brit Govt would see as (the troublesome rival ideologies that led to such mayhem). Therefore totally excluding successive Brit Govt’s from any acountability or blame for years of mayhem in its last colony.
