Republicans need to get back to the internationalism that came from Wolfe Tone.

A contribution from a member of the audience.

‘Disbelief is often indicated by averted gaze, or by touching the ear or scratching the chin. When a person is not being convinced by what someone is saying, the attention invariably wanders, and the eyes will stare away for an extended period’

How many of these kind of people are out there? Chavez?!?

‘Republicans need to get back to the internationalism of …’ – sounds like the speaker wants to get back to the internationalism of PLO/IRA, FARC/IRA, Cuba, Gaddafi, etc. etc. etc.

    It didn’t work, guys!

    Kathleen,

I’d be interested in seeing some more coverage of this, e.g. speakers response to questions etc.

Do you have anymore footage and can you blog it along with a brief synopsis of the event?

    Thanks

  • Fair play for sharing this with us Kathleen. Great to see some people still blame the Brits for everything!!!!

  • Paul McMahon

Sory Kathleen. Posted above before reading your 9.57 blog. However would apreciate elaboration on various speakers and which groupings represented, questions, comments from the floor etc.

I can see one from the IRSP on the panel.

As for ‘Sinn Fein Knocking Shops’ – well, that’s a first.

    I gave up after 30 seconds…

  • Kathleen

Paul I have all the speeches, the total meeting. But I think Mark wants to do some of the event. He won’t be back until wednesday, but he will blog it for definite.

  • kathleen

Paul, the reason for that is Mark was at the event. People worked together for this event to be brought to slugger, and its only fair Mark gets his share as he did his share of the work. He is on a little break. Hope this explains things.

Just to say to all, any event that is out there let us know and we will cover it if it is possible.

  • Billyo

This can’t be for real? Come on it’s some kind or weird comedy skit or something? I mean they can’t be serious, can they?

Although fair play to them for having the b*lls to put it up on YouTube. They must have gone way past shame and embarrassment to sit there looking like they believe what they are doing matters.

  • catchagrip

that geezer should get back down the pub

    Er, what is this about?

You say it didn’t work, but four out of the five organization you mentioned are now in government, so if a politician and their politics are judged by whether they entered government, as sadly indeed they are in this world, it seems to have worked fine.

    regards

  • picador

Does anybody out there know what this is about?

  • Paul McMahon

Thank you Kathleen. I look forward to Mark’s blog on Wednesday.

  • Beaker O Dull

Has slugger been given a bung to become some sort of press office for wacky republicans?

First weekly accounts of the life and times of érígí and now these nutters.

  • Mick Hall “so if a politician and their politics are judged by whether they entered government, as sadly indeed they are in this world, it seems to have worked fine.”

Should they not be judged by achievement, or not, of their long held objectives, which they may have killed and died for? Being in government shouldn’t be an end in itself. Maybe its a consolation prize for failure.

  • “Being in government shouldn’t be an end in itself”

    P Bradley,

Of course you are right, but so few of todays political leaders believe this, New Labour in the UK are the best example of this, in the end all they ended up doing is appeasing the likes of Murdoch out of fear that he will turn the electorate against them.

‘Almost’ all mainstream politicians have one thing in common, they fear and hate the electorate, and convince themselves that we are all shallow and fickle. When in reality most people are not, as was demonstrated be the result of the last US election.

It is not as if most politicos are in touch with the ‘street’, prior to the 2008 US presidential elections campaign I would guess that the overwhelming majority of senators and congressmen/women believed deep down that the USA was not ready for a black president.

    What a bunch of shysters!

  • Danny

Is that Francis Mackie of the 32CSM on the panel?

Which groups are represented on the panel?

You just posted on another thread.

Any chance you could provide the information that I asked you for nine hours ago?

“PLO/IRA, FARC/IRA, Cuba, Gaddafi, etc. etc. etc.”

My advice to the Palestinians, is to get a weapon that works, or find another way,

Militarism with a wooden rifle, is an appalling concept.

it is silly ‘to be in arms’ when the enemy kills more of its own military, in friendly fire, than its opposition.

So the whoosh rockets are dumb, the IRA never tried to ‘improvise’ anything further away than a few hundreds yards.

Hamas has to ask itself, is its war worth having as a war, because they’re not very good at it.

There is no military solution to Israel, there just isn’t.

“As for ‘Sinn Fein Knocking Shops’ – well, that’s a first.”

    That’s me on-topic

I think SF largely left that to other voices.

There were links between just about everything and Amsterdam, Great Britain, Russia, Spain and what have you.

One of the reasons SF took a back of the hall role in relation to drugs/pimps, and they were shy of risk, is that some criminals, were prepared to murder without discrimination.

The IRA ( to an extent) turned out, not to be the scariest gang on the island.

    Here’s me really on-topic

I send ASDA gifts to wobblies in the USA,

    Why not?
