Is abuse of the Irish race abuse?

From Rod Liddle’s column in the Sunday Times. “Great news: it is perfectly legal to call an Irish person a “f****** leprechaun.”
Do all types of Irish people need the protection of race hate laws any more? After all we’re our own worst enemies, little help from outside is necessary. In these days of the ( slightly mottled) Celtic tiger, the Irish image has been transformed – see Roy Foster’s Luck and the Irish, witty but not universally admired. Yet nasty residues remain.

  • “we’re our own worst enemies”

Ranger’s and Celtic’s fans (as seen on YouTube). Do their mothers love them?

The stigma of ‘Paddy Irish man’ has left us, thanks to the growth of our economy.
Thankfully this has led us to take pride from our own culture and traditions. More and more of our youth are learning the Irish Language and have ditched the self-hatred that resulted from hundreds of years British imperialist rule.

I believe that you are wrong, Caoimhn, in both conclusion and cause. However as I have just returned from a pretty good Sunday lunch at The Plough in Tyttenhanger in Hertfordshire and, having first typed the first sentence beginning, “I believe that you are wong“, which, if posted unedited might have led to a demand for stricture from the Alliance Party (or indeed, the Alliance Patty, as I first typed. See what I mean?), I will reflect upon it first.

So, if you will forgive me, please, I will do a Douglas MacArthur on this and come back later, reinforced and reinvigorated.

So, let me get this straight, if the Irish are a race, then Irish Republican attacks on anything British must be considered as racist. Right?

Well, no. Have you guys not figured it out yet? Only white people can be racists! You can’t start complaining now about the world white liberals have created.

Caoimhn83, You mean like ‘Faugh A Ballagh’!

Being a ‘Paddy’ is no different to being labelled a Scouser, Geordie, Jock, Taff, etc etc. Being born in a geographic location does not endow one with an identity. What was that Philip Larkin poem about our parents?

  • Ri Na Deise

The broader Irish people are made up of many different ethnicities and traditions.Gaelic people(or ethnic Irish) however are ethnically different from British people. Whether that entails a different ‘race’ though is debatable…

For the ‘mad uncles ‘ in the NI attic 😉

The f*****g English invade whereas the f******g Irish infest or is the other way around nowadays ?
    Tiernan has the answers.

That’s the CPS if you get caught spanking a schoolgirl, or making child pornography,

it is a completely free pass, if you try to scoot out the door at Movilla, you are up in court.

The CPS, or PPSNI, try explaining them to me.

“From Rod Liddle’s column in the Sunday Times. ”

It was a good article though. Because I was asked to raise a few bob to tackle the No Popery signs at Lewes, and next year, we might do it.

A lot of our new arrivals, are quite shocked. I suppose it is rather, discriminatory.

It is hard to say, the state religion, is wrecked at anchor. So, No Popery banners, still bannering.

Liddle is living proof that anti-Irish bigotry is alive and well:

6CP – “Only white people can be racists!” You’ve really stumped me on this one (particular in the context you bring this up – have you been “hanging out” with BfB?).
Either you are being sarcastic (which unfortunately I can’t pick up on) or talking absolutely nonsense. You have me worrying about your sanity though when you mention “the world white liberals have created”. Gulp!!! Theres a worrying reek of Michigan Militia about that turn of phrase 6CP.

The notion of an irish race is racist. Like the missus said above it’s about ethnicity
