Joyce & Morgan miss out on Antiguan pay-day while OFMDFM sends greeting to finalists

While I am hesitant to describe the Stanford Super Series as anything more than a fairly cynical money making exercise for the ECB, it is the only cricket show in town tonight and the Middlesex side in action against Trinidad and Tobago had a sizeable Irish and ex-Irish connection in the presence of Eoin Morgan and Ed Joyce. Unfortunately, they’ve missed out on a larger share of the Texan’s millions as the Caribbean side won their match comfortably by 5 wickets with 4 balls to spare and collect the $280,000 victory purse (Middlesex collect $100,000). Morgan was not released by his county to play for Ireland in the ICC Intercontinental Cup final later this week. On a brighter note political leaders north and south have sent their best wishes to Phil Simmons’ side as they prepare for their climactic game against Namibia which begins on Thursday.
