“If you want to be president, I suggest you enunciate.”

There’s room for serious political discussion [and reporting] and there’s room for satire – just try not to confuse the two. Via the Prof again. Btw, probably not safe for work.

The unfolding Sarah saga is shaping up to be a re-run of Twin Peaks. (Anyone remember Twin Peaks)

Has anyone seen the background during broadcasts from beautiful downtown Wasilla. Familiar and scary.

Friends back home tell me the current joke is:-

Q: why is joe lieberman like mccains first wife?

A: McCain left both of them for beauty queens.

    As Correspondant Sarah Bee said
‘Huricane Sarah could yet turn out to be a category 5 shitstorm’

Here’s a question that ought to be considered. What in the world does an American Presidential election have to do with a northern Ireland message board?

I’m an American and I get enough of this nonsense from my home grown media. Besides, very few folks here really understand US politics in depth.

How about getting back to matters involving the six counties.

  • Pete Baker

    KieranJ

Well, I blog it because I’m interested.

    And that’s all I need.

If you’re not.. just move along to the next post.

    Guys

    We’re in the ‘humour’ category..

  • USA

Yes it was certainly humourous, but I also agree that it has nothing to do with the six counties. It is not about what Pete Baker is “interested” in, its about “Politics and Culture” in the wee six.

  • joeCanuck

Some of us enjoy Pete’s (and other bloggers here) occasional forays into the outside world. As Pete says, there is no need to read anything you are not interested in.
Carry on Pete. (not that you would ever need my permission or encouragement)

‘What in the world does an American Presidential election have to do with a northern Ireland message board? ‘

Like it or not, America remains ,at least to some extent, a player in the ongoing saga of The Peace Process.

‘I’m an American and I get enough of this nonsense from my home grown media. Besides, very few folks here really understand US politics in depth. How about getting back to matters involving the six counties. ‘

Well KieranJ, I’m an american too. Howdy.

Petes occassional posts on matters not exclusively devoted to the six counties (or should that be 32 KJ?), especially the posts regarding science topics, liven up a blog which otherwise would be in danger of becoming an insular, self-absorbed, head up your ass exercise in the intellectual handjobbery of ‘whataboutery’.

Pete, keep up the non-norn ironland blogs. My kids love them. It brings us closer together as a family. thanx

Given the size of the world these days and the importance of the USA, having a moose-shootin, hockey mom, fundamentalist, flat earther as the possible next Veep is of some interest to us. SAdly, should she ever get it wrong, at least some of the missiles will pass over our heads and that does tend to concentrate the mind somewhat.

It’s also refreshing to realise that sometimes US politics and US politicians are just as bad as ours, just much better funded.

And to turn your argument on its head, if that is your view, why are you posting in here from the “Land of The Free” TM*? Very few folks there really understand NI politics in depth, I am told ,so I assume that they shouldn’t comment on them,

I have to tell you that a lot of us here are just waiting to see how Iris/Sarah gets on with the big job.

Also the whole conservative/liberal fault line in the US is a result in no small way of the pioneering work done by Ulster -Scots er… Pioneers.

Not exactly humor, but at least irony.

  • Really enjoyed that video and the actress that played Sarah Palin was absolutely brilliant. You have to admire people that can come up with stuff that good in such a short time.

I received this note today :

An e-mail from Ireland to all of their brethren in the States…
a point to ponder despite your political affiliation

We in Ireland can’t figure out why you people are even bothering to hold an election in the United States .

On one side, you had a pants wearing female lawyer, married to another lawyer who can’t seem to keep his pants on, who just lost a long and heated primary against a lawyer who goes to the wrong church, who is married to yet another lawyer who doesn’t even like the country her husband wants to run!

Now…On the other side, you have a nice old war hero whose name starts with the appropriate ‘Mc’ terminology, married to a good looking younger woman who owns a beer distributorship !!

What in God’s name are ye lads thinkin over in the colonies !

  • BfB

‘insular, self-absorbed, head up your ass exercise in the intellectual handjobbery of ‘whataboutery’.’

    Brilliant!
