“There is no way am I going to hang the technical group to dry”

Whether Independent TD Beverley Flynn remains a TD beyond Monday’s appearance in the High Court on bankruptcy proceedings isn’t clear, but she’s voting for Bertie Ahern as Taoiseach today – even without a confirmed deal in the manner of those other Independents. And of those other Independents, Finian McGrath has told the Irish Times that he hasn’t forgotten about the implications for the technical group.. we’ll see.. From the Irish Times

Mr McGrath also said that he and the Greens were negotiating for a change in Dáil procedures to ensure that no group is excluded from speaking time in the Dáil. Under current rules, a technical group of more than seven deputies can come together for speaking rights. “Part of my ongoing negotiations will be to ensure every person in the Dáil has the right and responsibility to be allowed to speak in the Dáil. That’s a very important issue for me. There is no way am I going to hang the technical group to dry, and Greens agree with me,” he said.

Adds Flynn now says she has signed a deal.

  • Unsurprisingly, Finian has already broken his pledge … he refused to support the Sinn Féin/Tony Gregory vote today against the motion denying them the right to speak.
