RIOT in Buncrana!?!

There were three hours of disturbances in Buncrana as small numbers of local and visiting youths clashed. Underage drinking seems to have been played a part.

I wonder what the Donegal Democrat and Skibereen Eagle have to say about this major scop of drunken Paddys fighting. I hope it won’t affect their Leaving results. Maybe Sinn Fein can knee cap them for anti social behaviour if they did not buy their booze and drugs from an approved source.

  • zzzzzzzzz

Thought it wouldn’t take long for Sinn Fein to be castigated on a thread that has nothing to do with them.

Bingo! there it was-the first post!

Better things to do-i’m away to enjoy the good weather before it breaks and the Shinners get the blame for that too….

  • jigglybits

    Jayz, Kelly,

Where’ve you been? This stuff’s been happening in Bundoran most weekends for several years!

Still, isn’t it grand that there’s now a bypass and you’ll never have to visit the place on your way to the Knock shrine?

  • Shore Road Resident

The two things are quite unconnected. Trouble in Bundoran actually is caused by Sinn Fein supporters.

  • Yer Woman

Derry waaaaaaans getting largered up and acting the big men in Buncrana/Lisfannon beach area is nothing new i’m afraid.
Sure didn’t you know, Derry folk are the most hard-done-by, marginalised people on God’s green earth and the whole f**king world owes them a living!!!!!!

And before the PC brigade swing into action, i’m a “wan” myself and thank my lucky stars that I got out of there when I did.

Prince Eoghan: A taxi from Derry to Bundoran? How decadant!!! Lol, and indeed, lol.

  • Bemused

Derry is an utter kip and it’s inhabitants utter wankers – I genuinely can’t think of a bigger hole in Ireland…

    “there’s now a bypass”

Whilst being a Derry native myself I have some sympathy for some of the sentiments expressed above but in my experience of visiting nightspots in Donegal it usually was the locals who started the fights with the Derry fellas.

The car parks of Inishowen discos regulary rang to the sound of some misfortunate Derry wan getting the shite kicked out of him by hairy blokes in big jumpers bescause he had the temerity to tap up some local girl (usually the sister of the head jumper wearer).

  • Cruimh

” in my experience of visiting nightspots in Donegal it usually was the locals who started the fights with the Derry fellas. ”

When are Northern nationalists going to get the message?
Southerners dislike you even more than they dislike unionists!
Hell, they dislike you more than the yanks or even the English.

    Partition rules OK 😉

  • Gerry Kelly

Speaking of bypasses, anyone remeber the old Borderland. That was a great place, before my bypasses.
My earlier post meant this was a non story. I often wonder how old those Derry birds frm the Borderland got on afterwards. They were the days. Drinking it up in Buncrana, avoiding the UFF death squads, throwing a few punches, Creggan by night.

  • The Pict

    Tut Tut Cruimh.

In this case we clearly see that it is northerners who dislike southerners.

  • Dec

Bearing in mind that Buncrana is several miles to the north of Derry, it’s amusing that the Slugger Unionist Brain foundation is making much hay of how Southerners dislike Northerners. Clearly their political straw-grasping now extends to matters geographical too.

Southerners dislike you even more than they dislike unionists!

Now, now Cruimh – nobody dislikes Nationalists more than they dislike Unionists, least of all our ‘Southern’ countrymen and women.

  • Cruimh

“Now, now Cruimh – nobody dislikes Nationalists more than they dislike Unionists, least of all our ‘Southern’ countrymen and women. ”

compare and contrast the reception given to sash and bowler at Rossnowlagh and reception given to northern nationalism’s finest at Bundoran 😉

  • Villian

    Declining educational standards.

  • Two Nations

And now there is a Derry wan in the Big Brother house. They really are awful people.

The question is does this Big Brother wan know that he can’t pack a gigantic sports bag EVERY single weekend and go home?

  • Dec

compare and contrast the reception given to sash and bowler at Rossnowlagh and reception given to northern nationalism’s finest at Bundoran 😉

Given the absence of sectarian assaults, public urination and drunken rampages at Rossnowlagh, the locals are probably unaware that any northern Unionists are present.

  • foreign correspondent

I grew up near Derry and though I admit the city has a lot of downsides to it, LIKE ANYWHERE, I do wonder exactly which beacons of western civilization those posters who have so eloquently slagged it off come from…
Seems to me that drunken teenagers fighting kids from nearby towns is a pretty universal problem and that some people are just grafting their own prejudices onto that.

  • Cruimh

“Given the absence of sectarian assaults, public urination and drunken rampages at Rossnowlagh, the locals are probably unaware that any northern Unionists are present.”

they are certainly aware that Northern Nationalists are NOT present 😉

  • Margot

So public urination and drunken rampages are the purpose of OO marches?

  • Yokel

    Bemused

Strabane, Larne and Bangor town centre on a weekend night….

  • Yokel

    17. His entrance must be a proud day for Derry.

Any man who can fly to the US to support a man charged in the biggest no smoke without fire case since OJ Simpson, thats a standard bearer for the town to be proud of.

How’s Coleraine this weather? aren’t you a Derryman yirsel? Mad isn’t it, this weather I mean. ;¬)

  • nmc

I remember going down to Buncrana/Bundoran camping when I was about 15. We had to spend the entire weekend guarding our tents as on arrival we were noticed by a gang of about fifteen slack jawed smicks in dirty white track suits. Like a terrifying 21st century version of deliverance. They probably don’t have much to do down there.

  • foreign correspondent

Prince Eoghan, your comment was fair enough. I am often the first to slag off Derry when it deserves it. I too have unfortunately sometimes heard ignorant remarks made about Donegal people by Derry people; very ironic, seeing as most Derry people would have Donegal connections. You just have to look at the most common surnames in the city for confirmation of that.
However I think there is no call for the kind of crass remark made above by Bemused, for example.

  • Cruimh

Eoghan – Bengor boy ectually – Coleraine is so uncouth – and one thing’s for sure – if bemused thinks Derry is the biggest tip in NI he hasn’t travelled !

  • Prince Eoghan

    Cruimh

Here was me thinking you were someone else, auld Ivan to be precise. Having read some of your views I naturally assumed you were he.

So in Bengor, do they all speak with that strangulated kinda voice. Can’t really slag anyone from N.Down, as a fine doctor from there delivered safely a little boy for us just three weeks ago. She was surprised that I knew she was from county Down. I couldn’t bear to tell her it was the way she strangled her words as they came out that gave the game away.

    FC

    Agreed! uncalled for, good’n’bad everywhere.

  • Cruimh

Bengor is the cultural capital of Ireland – North and South – though North Down does have an infestation of APNI types. the accent can be quite pronounced, but it’s not the worst.

Congratulations on your son – I had assumed you were a bloke.

  • Prince Eoghan

    >>Congratulations on your son – I had assumed you were a bloke.<

  • Fraggle

nmc, before making up retarded lies about Bundoran/Buncrana, consult a map to see where they are in relation to eachother.

Cruimh, Bangor would be hard pressed being the cultural capital of north down let alone Ireland. What exactly does it have going for it culture-wise? I’m genuinely curious since I can’t find anything much on google.

Derry, for all its faults, has a good selection of cultural events on offer.

  • Margot

With a population of only around 14,000, Bangor is one of the UK’s smallest cities.

  • jaffa

I think that’s the Welsh one Margot.

  • jaffa

We used to have the biggest outdoor pool in Ireland but we knocked it down because we’re all effeminate vowel stranglers now and we needed somewhere to put all our yachts.

  • Margot

    Yeah!

Kind of explains the chips on the shoulders doesn’t it?

  • jaffa

We probably have Ireland’s most ugly gap-toothed sea front and Ireland’s most corrupt or incompetent local councillors or planners.

And we have Ireland’s most infuriatingly, pointless and stupid one way system.

And we have a girl’s grammar school that looks just like a prison crossed with a Danish pig battery.

  • Reader

jaffa: We probably have Ireland’s most ugly gap-toothed sea front and Ireland’s most corrupt or incompetent local councillors or planners.
I thought the gap-toothed appearance was a big improvement on what was there before. At least from sea level.
The one way system is aimed at preventing people from Belfast getting to the nice parts of town. (A collection of wrong way streets connected by rat runs)

  • Cruimh

“Cruimh, Bangor would be hard pressed being the cultural capital of north down let alone Ireland. What exactly does it have going for it culture-wise?”

It’s not Millisle, Larne, Coleraine, Derry, East Belfast or West Belfast.

  • Fraggle

    Cruimh, struggling are you?

  • Prince Eoghan

    >>we’re all effeminate vowel stranglers<

  • Cruimh

What more do you need Fraggle ? 😉

  • Yer Woman

Post 19: Have you ever suffered the sights, sounds and smells that hit you up the proverbial bake on walking from the 212 Madien City flyer at Foyle Street to a taxi around at William Street for example?
Nothing fills me with more shame, embarassment and disgust that this bi-monthly walk after a trek northwards to see the folks back home. Derry wans take absolutely no pride in their city and have permanent persecution complex of Liverpudlian proportions.
The town has soooo much to offer culturally, yet the degenerative fucks that stalk the city centre at night and by day, and their parents that just don’t give a damn, are destroying that town and now Buncrana it seems.
