Abduction and shooting under cross-border investigation

Not much detail on this case yet but I’ll briefly note what is available. Two men from Derry have been arrested in connection with the abduction and assault of a couple in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, last night. The couple were taken to Derry and both were assaulted and the 42-year old man was shot in both ankles. RTÉ reports that the couple are originally from Northern Ireland.

A cross-border investigation is under way after four men travelling in a white Ford Transit Van forcibly removed the couple, aged 38 and 42, from their rented home on the Newbrook Road sometime between 8pm and 9pm.

Added some additional detail, from the RTÉ report

The woman was dressed in a white boiler suit when found in High Park in the Creggan area of Derry early this morning, the man who had been beaten and shot was wearing only his underwear.

and from the Irish Times today

Officers from the PSNI interviewed the couple yesterday and also arrested two men who are believed to have paramilitary links.
