  • gerry

Your link is down there rusty, or it could be my end.

  • the sparrow

What is sinn fein’s obsession with bebo pages as of late?

It seems that most ogras have one too. It’s interesting to view the profiles of members of these groups and their friends. Some of the pages may need a bit of a revamp should SF take the plung on policing.

  • The Devil

Sinn Fein are in Red White and Blue on the bebo page

    bit of irony there

  • Shamrock

Not only will they have to change a few bebo sites if they sign up to policing but they will have to get rid of the anti psni signs about the place. In my area alone I saw three today in rather close proximity yet SF are always in the papers going on about fly tipping etc etc which they say discourages tourists from coming to the areas!

Again typical of SF, one rule for them and another for everyone else!

Despite this I must say it is pleasing to see that they may finally sign up to policing and we can finally move on now and get the issues sorted!

They will of course say that they led the way etc etc but they didnt and I know quite a few people who keep the police in their local area accountable and who engage with the local community to ensure that the psni are addressing local issues as part of the DPP work.

It will be very interesting to see what happens on the Policing board and DPPs. I bet those SFers who are hungry for glory will be the fighting over themselves to be the first SF Chairs! They have all been dying to be part of them for a long time!

And although I will be delighted to see them join
I just hope they dont take away from any of the more proactive DPP and Policing Board members who have worked hard under extremey difficult circumstances over the years.

  • TWH

I wonder why there is no meeting to be held in Fermanagh.

Do our views not count for anything??

  • gerry

Can anyone tell me what exactly they will be doing at these meetings? Are they a gathering of the party faithful to nod heads and agree with each other, or will they be meeting with other groups . Are they (other groups) welcome, for example- when meetings were held in toombe and conway mill a broad church of republicanism was invited, does anyone know if these meeting will be along those lines. I am also wondering if they expect these meetings to be small, the devenish is not particularly big, a school assembly hall, would have been much better. they have used st louises school assembly hall for meeting in during the west belfast festival, wouldn’t that have been better or are they expecting a low turn out? except for derry the meetings look like they are to be held in hotels or bars, would I be correct in that assumption. It doesn’t look like a huge effort at consultation of the republican people.

  • gerry

sorry newcastle is to be in the newcastle centre, which is more appropriate than a bar, bigger and airy, and altogether much more suitable.

  • parcifal

gerry its the opportunity for SF to sell the proposals, and let’s see what happens.
    Good move Gerry.

  • Pat Mc Larnon

    gerry

‘Are they a gathering of the party faithful to nod heads and agree with each other, or will they be meeting with other groups .’

For your benefit I have copied the intro from above.

‘Sinn Fein has an Extraordinary Ard Fheis website and has announced dates for their public meetings on the motion.’

Public meetings mean exactly that, ie open to the public.

  • J Kelly

As far as i read in the Derry Journal these are public meetings with Gerry Adams taking the lead and answering questions from all comers. I know some of these venues it looks like a 1000 seater venues so its as open as it can be.

  • gerry

Pat I have already pointed out that the web site link isn’t working, well not for me, although the other links are. So they are ‘public’ meetings for everybody, but who will be on the panel? will it be sf only, or will other groups be invited to speak. For your benefit pat, I think I needed to spell that out? Why the devenish, not so big is it? why not north belfast? people in north belfast not having any meetings? how come all these gaps in areas? Only certain sections of the public to be catered for? doesn’t the public include everybody? How about the people on the Lr ormeau road?

  • Elvis Parker

I love the optimism of putting ‘2016’ in the name of their website company – however misplaced.
As every day passes it becomes clearer surely – even to the most ardent Republican – that it aint going to happen.
SF are all about making partition palatable

  • FFS

‘why not north belfast? people in north belfast not having any meetings? how come all these gaps in areas? Only certain sections of the public to be catered for? doesn’t the public include everybody? How about the people on the Lr ormeau road? ‘

    No legs?

  • gerry

no legs, you try walking from n belfast over to the other side of town up the falls to in to andy town and half way down finaghy road north, near south belfast. take you about 3 to 4 hours, hell of a dander no legs!!

  • Rory

    Arbys in Toomebridge

The Fireworks will certainly ignite at this Venue!

I wonder will the McGlinchey Family (who arn’t Anti agreement) – the remaining 2 who are for the provo line get invited!

Suppose Toome is the nearest the provos will venture towards South Derry!

Bet you we all read and hear about this one!

  • marty (not ingram)

    Rory,
So will you be attending any of these public meetings to put forward your opposition to accepting policing?

  • gerry

Lets hope sf aren’t thinking of bussing people to the venues. They aren’t behind the door of accusing others of bussing in people on this site when it wasn’t so. I do hope these are democratic meetings and the audience is not full of puppets with prepared questions and no body else getting a look in-thus ensuring no ‘difficult’ questions are asked. I would like to know if the mood of these meetings are that the public would rather sf did not support the police would they heed their voters and listen, or plunge ahead with the leadership strategy anyway?

  • marty (not ingram)

I would like to know if the mood of these meetings are that the public would rather sf did not support the police would they heed their voters and listen, or plunge ahead with the leadership strategy anyway?

I would imagine that they would proceed with the AF and then, assuming that passes, would find out the voters opinion in the forthcoming election.

  • gerry

Then why consult the public (voters) before the AF?
One would assume a political party would consult its voters and base support to judge the mood there in before doing anything that would cost them votes or cause a split in their ranks.

  • marty (not ingram)

Fair enough – but that’s only a sample of their support.

  • gerry

on what meetings are noted here, marty I’d agree with you.

  • Rory

    Marty

Yes I will be attending Arbys with 8 others all disillusioned with the Leadership of PSF!

Views have to be expressed even if the Provo Leadership don’t want to listen!

Putting my views forward openly and in a dignified manner but something tells me that I and others will end up more outcast than we already feel.

Incidentally 4 of the 8 attending are ex-prisoners who have never been consulted!

  • gerry

6 public meetings with an additional public meeting in north armagh?

    why not say 7 meetings?

    these meetings begin this saturday.

So are these the only meetings, 7 to cover the whole of the north?

Does anyone know what the bigger republican gatherings are?

‘Members of the party leadership and local area representatives will take part in these meetings.’

In other words the panel will consist of SF members only, no other groups are to be invited. Clearly there is to be no choice for the public – come along and hear us only. At least at conway mill and toombe they gave you a choice to make your own mind up one way or another.

Re the meetings, ‘We are committed to holding a series of meetings with the wider republican and nationalist community, including the families of our patriot dead and victims of state murder’.

They call this consulting the families of ‘our patriot dead’ and victims of state murder. These people will have their consultation with SF as long as they are prepared to fight to be heard in a public meeting.

  • In other words the panel will consist of SF members only

Of course, these are Sinn Féin organised meetings.

That being said they are open to all members of the public so if Irps/sticks/cocoa coca or whoever want to put forward a different view then they will be able.

  • dalek

lol is a much overused contraction but genuinely did laugh out loud at Sinn Fein having a Bebo site!!

Beyond funny….perhaps an extra tab needs added as I see there is one for friends and none for ex-friends!!

    Classic!

  • Aaron McDaid

No meetings in the South then? Very partitionist 🙂

  • Gerry & the peacemakers

I know the Devinish – it holds well over 1000. I think this is a good move – I just hope that they are rational Q&A sessions and don’t turn into ‘my republican da is bigger than your republican da’.

This reminds me a bit of when Tony Blair ditched clause 4 in the British Labour Party. The move was opposed by many. But as far as I know Tony Benn, Dennis Skinner et al didn’t leave the party on this most sacred of principles. Shouldnt a political party be a broad church? The only winners of infighting will be your political opponents.

  • Gerry & the peacemakers

    Apart from Cavan, Aaron!

  • Derry Lama

Now there’s a funny thought – people will be able to put forward a different view!

Yeah right! All you SS should wake up and smell the coffee! I’ve been to many a SF organised public event the eyes are watching you from the moment you walk through the door. If someone even suggests that Gerry is wrong or is wearing the wrong jumper or isnt pronouncing his Irish correctly or whatever.., number plates are noted, associates are remembered and information is stored – it’s how the Provos conducted their business for years. Like someone once said – they havent gonbe away you know!

  • Gerry & the peacemakers

    Derry Lama

    Watch out they’re behind you!!

  • they havent gonbe away you know!

Why was he/she speaking Ulster Scots?

I have been at SF organised event in South Armagh were a local scumbag came and starting calling everyone “provie” bastards. They were still allowed their chance to spleen, even if they were talking shite.

That is the way these meetings will be conducted, everyone will be entitled to and should have their say.

Now is the time to speak your mind

  • Derry Lama

    You’re joking! (Arent you?)

    Didnt you read “Killing Rage”?

  • Derry Lama

My point is that these events are just a stunt; little more than a facade.

Few people would feel safe standing at such an event and telling those gathered they were wrong! Only SF die-gards doubt this and that’s what makes this whole spectacle a charade!

  • You’re joking! (Arent you?)

    No

I am from the area, why would I need to read a book written by a tout?

  • Derry Lama

The Provos were prepared to kill those who went up against them. Its hardly surprising that people would be scared to attend AND go against the top table. Like I said, only SF die-hards doubt this and that’s what makes events like this a charade! Now if you’re one of those people who think SF and the Provos are purely hourable Irishmen beyond reproach then you’re going to say that about Eamonn Collins arent you?

  • Rory

In Arbys heres what the Provo’s will be asked:-

(1). Why was the right honourable MP for
mid-ulster in Bellaghy throwing his weight
    around.

(2). Why have 50% of local prisoners not been
    properly consulted?

(3). Why have 2 loacl Dead Hunger Strikers
    families be ingnored.

(4). Why are threats being made to people
individually in Maghera, Dungiven & Gulladuff

(5). What happens if the DUP pull the carpet out
from under the AF floor show – What Next?

(6). The taking of an oath – do volunteers now
    have to take this?

The Provo top table will get a real rough time because local people have had enough nonsense from the BELFAST PEACE MACHINE!

No one locally is afraid as we already expect SPIKE MURRAY to be in attendance to make the provo storm troopers look a little bit more credible.

  • gerry

‘I know the devenish it holds well over 1000’

Gerry and the peacemakers, thats well over 1000 for the WHOLE of BELFAST, lisburn, crumlin, glenavy, dunmurray, etc.

    not a lot is it?

  • Ulick

There’ll also be a meeting in the Ashburn Hotel, Lurgan at 2pm on Sunday the 21st.

  • gerry

Ulick, the SF website hasn’t been updated to include the Lurgan meeting. In which case how does the Lurgan cumman, or whom ever is holding the meeting propose to advertise it? Are they going it alone, or is it due to dissatisfaction at the leadership stand? I doubt it, but thought I’d ask.

  • puxxled

wrong thread i know but i hear this poles for the PSNI is all bollix. Why would anyone plant this story? discredit the 50-50? it has to be something like that. sad.

  • Ulick

“In which case how does the Lurgan cumman, or whom ever is holding the meeting propose to advertise it?”

Leaflet drops and word of mouth. I don’t detect any dissatisfaction in the Lurgan area. Most recognise the latest move is part of a longer term strategy. I assume this meeting is an attempt to get that message out and explain that strategy to the wider republican family.

  • Eyes Wide Open

“I am from the area, why would I need to read a book written by a tout?”

To learn something for yourself instead of blindly accepting what the treasonous SF media machine tell you?

  • darth rumsfeld

scary to note that Sinn Fein only has 12 friends on myspace- and that Tony Blair hasn’t signed up to be one yet!

  • Pat Mc Larnon

    gerry,

the panel will be SF members as it is a SF organised meeting. If the anti SF alliance wish to turn up with their agenda for change (sic) then they are welcome to put it before the body of the hall.

A meeting will be organised for N Belfast. I will post the venue and date as soon as I get it.

  • It’s truly charming how politicians think a crappy, ugly, no-features picture hosting site is going to fairydust their image, no?
