Kennedy underscores integrity of witnesses

The Irish Times leads with Danny Kennedy’s criticism of the DUP’s attack on the IRA appointed clergyman witnesses. As apparently does today’s Daily Ireland front page – but it doesn’t normally go on line until 3.30.

  • Darrell Monteith

The DUP clearly established that the witness’ were not independent as had been claimed. They are simply Provo appointed window dressers and their claims should be viewed as such.

Claims that all their weapons were surrendered do not stand up either as the government has clearly been involved in changing the inventory in cahoots with the Provos and as experience has shown neither are trustworthy or honest

‘the government has clearly been involved in changing the inventory in cahoots with the Provos and as experience has shown neither are trustworthy or honest’

Why would your government do that?

A plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel.

Yes indeed, the British goverment has a vested interest in seeing that republican paramilitaries are sufficiently armed to carry on their war against the British government of NI. The last thing TB wanted was an unarmed IRA, because.. er, its a secret.

The DUP are getting caught up in a detail when the more important stories are provo failure to deliver on the 3 things asked of them (transparent decommissioning, disbandment and criminality) and the government and Irish government volte face on what they required.

  • Brian Boru

Fair_deal, what about the Loyalist terror groups? The UPRG (political wing of UDA) has told the media that if De Chastelain lives to 208 he still won’t get them to decommission.

  • lhiannan-shee

Isn’t it a fact that the weapons held by the Loyalist paramilitaries are such rubbish (compared to the sophisticated armoury of the Provies) that they are too embarassed to produce them for decommissioning?
