Pardon my ignorance – I thought the witnessess to decommision were to be two independent witnessess. Fr. Alex Reid is a personal friend of Gerry Adams and as such can not be described as independent!

Alex Reid has a great many friends, a testimony to his goodness. Likewise the aptly named Harold Good.
This is probably a gross simpification, but wasn’t the idea of two churchmen that one should represent the prods and one the taigs?
If you’re a unionist then you should trust Harold. But try going the extra mile and trusting Alex, because he’s a man of God too.
Those who participate in IRA organised charades are unlikely candidates for the term “Man of God”.
Why is religions being introduced to IRA surrender? It’s of no concern to me whether a pro-Agreement Methodist lickspittle performs somersaults of joy at what he has beheld;
1. Why has the IRA failed to show it’s surrender?
2. Why has it not disbanded?
3. Why has it not dissolved its criminal empire?
4. Why should WE believe liars merely because two clerics choose to?

who are you asking these questions of; Her Majesty’s government, the DUP, the Irish government, the U.S. government?
I ask because only the DUP are looking for the IRA’s surrender. None of the others are. Go away, out of business, new mode etc. but no mention of surrender.
If you want their surrender, you’ll have to declare war on them personally and defeat them as no one else is at war any more.
The DUP are the only ones in that list who don’t believe the “lickspittle”.

David, most of us accept the word of clergymen because … well, generally speaking clergymen espouse a moral code.
It was with something between amusement and despair that I watched others question the credentials of De Chastelain and his colleagues. Almost to a man they were toytown politicians who’s true level of competence in a normal society would be as county councillors in a provincial backwater.

It could be because their not surrendering, they are disarming
2. Why has it not disbanded?
Because, as they are not a “public” organization, whose members publicly known, esp. since the re-organization along classical “resistance cell” lines, there is nothing to publically disband — its not like the Royal Irish Regiments, who can have a ceremony and retire their colours, etc.
3. Why has it not dissolved its criminal empire?
One thing at a time, lad, one thing at a time. Likewise, care to provide a time-table for loyalist arms, disbanding, and ceasing of criminal activities? Oh, that’s right, they can’t even manage a reasonable facsimile of a cease-fire.

I take it you refer to photographs or some sort of DVD collaboration with a Willie McCrea soundtrack to capture this ‘surrender’, have they taken photos of the watchtowers coming down?

Why photos? To ‘prove’ that these guns have been decomissioned? In other words you’ve not seen photos to show these guns exist but you require photos to show they no longer exist, see the degenerate intellect here?
