Make Tacky Jingoist Political Campaigns History…

NO sooner was the Shankill Mirror (still not updated online) off the presses announcing the Love Ulster campaign than Martin McGuinness steps up to present the equally catchy Make Partition History campaign. With total decommissioning imminent (if not already complete), this should convince republican doubters – how can it be surrender when everyone is celebrating? At least it’s guaranteed to get better press than Love Ulster did.

The MakePartitionHistory campaign seems to have substituted red for orange in the tricolour. Is this a side deal with the Socialist Workers Party or an announcement that SF are moving on from reaching out to Unionists to reaching out for trade unionists?

  • Denny Boy

You might wish to calibrate your monitor, aquifer; it’s still orange on my Apple PowerBook :0)

  • TAFKABO

    It’s red on my screen.

  • Keith M

It’s red on my screen to. Maybe they have borrows the Italian flag.

  • Denny Boy

Hehe, I take it you chaps are using Windoze boxes 😉

“Never ask a man what computer he uses. If it’s a Mac, he’ll tell you. If it’s anything else, why embarrass him?” – Tom Clancy

Take a look top right. Bairbre de Brun is wearing red. If that looks blue or purple on your screen then it’s time to calibrate :0)

BTW I see rabblerouser Paisley’s “predictions” are coming true.

  • Alan McDonald

    Denny,

Windoze user here. Bairbre is wearing red, but who are those two young people in the top panel? NB: this is NOT a rhetorical question.

The orange in the flag (toward the back left in the shadows) is redder than any of the orange on the page, including the orange in the SF logo.

How’s that for concentrating on the minutiae? NB: that WAS a rhetorical question.

  • Denny Boy

    Alan McDonald

“… who are those two young people in the top panel?”

You talkin’ to me? (said in a Taxidriver voice) Dunno, Alan. I’m not a shinner.

I have to confess that I may have stretched the truth slightly for the fun of debate. The flag IS red in the shadows. But is “red” hair truly red also?

Thanks for picking up on my BTW, Irish. I wouldn’t be as paranoic as you and ascribe the absence of comment to censorship. At the same time, the violence that Paisley has inspired needs to be commented on.

Pace the [real] Presbyterian Moderator, [real Dr] Harry Pritchard. He’s a true man of God of course:

‘”Presbyterian Moderator Dr Harry Prichard has urged both marchers and protesters to abide by the commission’s ruling.

‘”I understand that there are many concerns and worries about freedom to express culture, to achieve justice and equality and about human rights,” he said. ‘

  • Denny Boy

Eh!!?!! What happened to “Irish” and his post?

This place is beginning to resemble Borley Rectory. One minute you imagine you see somone, the next minute …

  • Alan McDonald

No, Denny, I’m talking to Travis Bickle.

OK, you’re not a Shinner, but you could ID one of the old folks in the panel. I just thought maybe …

  • irish

I understand that there are many concerns and worries about freedom to express culture, to achieve justice and equality and about human rights,” he said.

    Alan,

If you mean the banner with 6 people,

From left to right : Gerry Adams, Angus Ó Snodaigh, Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, Martin McGuinness, Mary Lou McDonald, Bairbre de Brún.

  • Slartibuckfast

Does anyone have a link to a page where you can download a copy of that Shankill Moper Love Ulster Hate Taigs whatever the fack its called newspaper? I’ve been to the website a few times but I couldn’t bring myself to trawl through it again looking for a link.

    Cheers.

  • Denny Boy

“… that Shankill Moper Love Ulster Hate Taigs whatever the fack its called newspaper …”

Tsk, tsk, Slarti. That’s terribly disrespectful language!

Here ya go. Don’t forget to wear a garland of garlic while reading it :0)

  • Slartibuckfast

Cheers for that Denny but someone sent me that link on another forum just there now and I can’t get images up on the Adobe for some reason. I’d love to see it for the laugh so I’ll just have to pick up a copy somewhere.

    Cheers.

  • Alan McDonald

    Thanks, Crat.

Angus and Mary Lou were the young people I didn’t recognize. Do you know how old they are?

  • Jeremy

Mary Lou is about 32-33. I think Angus is about 43- 45 as he was a student at the time of the hunger strikes

  • Alan McDonald

    Thanks, Jeremy.

  • Jimmy_Sands

The picture is very striking. Does anyone know if the homage to Leni Riefenstahl was intentional?

  • lib2016

…and people still say that republicans don’t try to appeal to unionist sensibilities.
