Well done AP/RN

Over the years I have been critical of AP/RN but I must say I was pleased and impressed to see that it is carrying a letter questioning the legitimacy of blind defence of Sean Russell and suggesting that republicans examine the IRA record during World War II.This is in response to an article last week based on remarks by Sinn Féin Cllr Christy Burke.

The letter writer, Brian Hanley, points out an inaccuracy in the original article and reminds us that “During Russell’s time in Germany, the IRA was issuing statements claiming that the Nazis would be welcomed in Ireland as ‘liberators’ and complaining that de Valera’s government was under ‘Jewish control’.”

It will be interesting to see if this leads to debate within future issues of AP/RN and if the dreaded R word ( revisionism) will become acceptable. Such progress is welcome during “Céad Bliain Sinn Féin 1905-2005“.
