Adams calls for Donaldson intervention

This may be evidence that post-Stakeknife Sinn Fein are beginning to take Unionists more seriously, or it could be an attempt by Gerry Adams to call leading dissident Unionist Jeffrey Donaldson’s bluff. But Gerry has asked (subs may be needed) Jeffrey to intervene in the Garvaghy Road/Drumcree controversy, following his remarks on Tuesday.

There are no more than a dozen or so contentious Orange parades. Surely it is not outside the imagination of Orange and unionist leaders to envisage talking to the people involved. Jeffrey Donaldson as a member of the Orange Order should use his influence to bring this about.

For over 20 years, Slugger has been an independent place for debate and new ideas. We have published over 40,000 posts and over one and a half million comments on the site. Each month we have over 70,000 readers. All this we have accomplished with only volunteers we have never had any paid staff.

Slugger does not receive any funding, and we respect our readers, so we will never run intrusive ads or sponsored posts. Instead, we are reader-supported.
