Kenny: The General Election will be in Spring 2016

Well there we go

If the coalition does hold it will be the first ever Fine Gael-Labour coalition to serve a full five year term in Irish history. Also Sinn Fein will have to fight two elections within weeks of each other as the Northern Assembly elections will be on at roughly the same period. However, the party did have to do the same thing in 2007.

Haven’t kept up to date with recent polls. Is it still expected to be victory for FG/ Labour coalition ?

  • Zeno

Kenny probably wants to wait until SF accept they have to impose the welfare cuts in the North so he can ridicule them.

  • John Collins

More or less but Labour could, and might well be, absolutely decimated as so many smaller coalition parties in the Republic coming out of government have been in the past.

Your lack of knowledge of politics in the south of Ireland is astounding.

Fine Gael and sinn fein do not sup from the same watering pool – transfers between the parties voters are incredibly low which is not unexpected when you see they are centre right v populist left.

If Sinn Fein drop votes the likely home is a mix of Fine Fail and independents, thus strengthening the main opposition . Not what Fine Gael want, hence their muted attacks in recent months.

I’m thinking you just added that bit in as you find it difficult to let a blog pass without finding a way to crow bar an attack on SF in. Tad obsessed …

  • Zeno

Thanks, I notice you didn’t make any comment on SF getting ready to implement welfare reform, or austerity as they call it.

  • Gingray

    Zeno
Nothing to comment on – just your usual obsession with SF, polluting every thread you can comment on. You add zero.

  • Zeno

Ah, you’ve been briefed then. Beir bua.

  • Gingray

    Ha ha ha
Zeno, I have noticed since you got called out for being anti Catholic you are copying and pasting gaelic from google. Good on you, progress!

  • Zeno

Just keep your eye on the ball Ginger.

  • Gingray

Its a positive change, I am glad you are embracing our native language.

BTW the name is not Ginger, if you want tho you can keep calling me it and in honour of your contribution I could call you Zero?

  • Gaygael

Surely this would be good for SF?
I presume they would rather have a ‘good’ southern election and on the bounce of it, come North with some momentum.

Depends if there is any Labour Party left to coalesce with . FF are dead n the water . Independents will retain a significant presence . FG are handng out goodies in the Budget with tax reductions so perhaps they are hoping not to have to coalesce . Beyond the bounds of electoral possibility its not . SF will retain what they have and maybe gain a few . There will be no mandatory coalition which I’m sure will please the TUV 😉

  • Greenflag 2

Not at all . Any welfare cuts in NI will not be an issue in this election . The extradition of the former Anglo Irish gangster bankster David Drummond to Ireland to face trial will be hugely popular .
