It is odd how life goes on even though there’s turmoil in the streets, and the most senior politicians ‘big vision’ does not stretch to agreement on putting a job advert in the paper.. Ho hum… It’s in this context however we want to talk about the future of Belfast today at what will the of a new series of Digital Lunch hangouts…
So today we want to talk about Belfast in 2020… or rather not so much that (as one wit on Slugger’s Facebook page notes, we’ll need a Tardis for that).. But what we need to protect social goods at a time when public budgets are being marked down….
Today’s ‘lunch’ was with +Peter Dornan, +Paul Roberts and +Glenn Jordan… Highlights include…
– “It is about trying to change people’s aspirations…”
– Labour tried to eradicate in twenty years and instead it is worse than ever…
– The importance of getting FabLabs out in the community…
– Challenges are really severe, 81% of cuts coming to Northern Ireland have not been implemented yet
– “There is no future for us that relies purely on economic growth…”
