  • Dewi

    Raining and windy…

  • Mark

    Come on Ireland !

  • Into the west

lol they call it windy wellington

  • Mick Fealty

    Not a great start!

  • Republic of Connaught

So hard to watch an Ireland game and all the unforced errors we ALWAYS make.

  • Mick Fealty

Damn! Haven’t sat down since the game started!

  • Into the west

tough to watch IRE have had 5 penalties,
twice on the line and zero points .. oh here’s 3 …
Ireland are better , great defense by Wales

  • Mick Fealty

Welsh pack looking very solid! We need to soak up some of our opportunities.

  • Dewi

Good grief – what a kick!

  • Mick Fealty

    Come on boys!

  • Mick Fealty

    Wasted Dewi!

  • Mick Fealty

Ireland looking a little ragged at the moment. Older legs maybe?

  • Republic of Connaught

We are not clocking up the scores we should be. Bad sign.

  • Mick Fealty

I make that four screw ups from ROG!

  • Dewi

no ball -no territory – 10-3 up – wonderful!

  • Mick Fealty

Half time. What do we think?

  • Into the west

we’re lacking the clinical finish, v.frustrating.
Crumb of comfort IRE second half in last 2 games
haven’t given away any points at all.
Bring on sexton, keep doing what we’re doing ,
only better, and don’t panic !!

  • Fantastic first half of Rugby. Finely balanced.

Surely, this is the winner’s quarter final.

  • Mick Fealty

Good point there. Ireland too fixed on getting a try. Not playing the margins by clicking up penalties. But great defence from Wales.

Ireland need another game plan, and younger legs. It’s not who’s turned up. It’s who’s done their homework. Damn you Gatland!

  • Republic of Connaught

Who knows with Ireland? It’s all in the head.

They must wash with hands with Connaught Gold butter they make so many handling errors every match.

  • Mick Fealty

    All tied!!

  • Into the west

experience is just beginning to show .. nice moves by IRE

  • Dewi

    well done Michael!!!!

  • Mick Fealty

Yeah, right. Fitness levels could be the difference.

  • Republic of Connaught

    EEJITS!

  • Dewi

    Only 3 scrums so far?

  • Mick Fealty

This is text book control from Wales! Be good to watch if we weren’t the victims!!

  • Dewi

This is quite an important kick.

  • Dewi

    Hell

  • Mick Fealty

Subs seem to have settled things. But this is Wales’ to lose!

  • Dewi

    YES!!!!

  • Mick Fealty

Now they are toying with us!

  • Into the west

excellent WLS pressure, IRE look beat
Just the speed of it .. fitness Mick aye ..
    painful to watch ..

  • Republic of Connaught

Fair play to Wales. I’ll be backing them now.

  • Dewi

What time do pubs hoping these days?

  • Dewi

    ehh open!!

  • Dewi

    Warburton superb

  • Mick Fealty

We just have nothing to respond with!

  • Dewi

I wish Rhys wouldn’t keep hitting the post.

  • Into the west

IRE need a quick try , we’ve been strangled though 🙁

  • Republic of Connaught

I don’t mind losing in the football because Ireland don’t have the players.

But this Ireland team was good enough to win today and they just blow it so poorly. Very, very annoying their fragile mentality.

  • Into the west

RoC we have the players, just can’t get thru
had that early posession in 1st hald produced something
this game would have been, and should have been close.
fair play to wales .. faultless really

  • Republic of Connaught

We lack imagination in attack. Too often we use donkey tactics with no cleverness. I am not a big fan of Kidney anyway.

In saying that, I hope Wales thrash England or France.

  • Mark

Shell shocked ! devasting defeat . The Welsh got stuck in and never lets us into the game .

” I thought you were Lions teammates’ said the referee to Mike Philips and Brian O Driscoll .

    Welsh defence amazing !

I hope they go on the win it.

  • Brilliant Wales. What else can you say!

They deserved to win. I am still trying to work out how they got so good since the six nations but there it is. They are now (dare I say it) now a Northern Hemisphere superpower.

  • Into the west

arrghh all that rugby and 1 try, 1 conv & 1 pen that was it

    that was the difference,
WLS made good use of all their opportunities,
whereas IRE appeared to rush it & fumble

  • Mick Fealty

I think that’s a little harsh. I only hope Wales keep something back for the final. That was a stunning performance. Garland gets to eat his revenge cold.

We looked like a bunch of old boxers going one bout too many!

  • Mark

We all make silly calls …

But you won’t hear me on the Steven King thread .

Again , good luck Wales .

  • Republic of Connaught

We looked like a bunch of old women with diarrhea, more like.

Congrats to Wales. They are more natural rugby players than the butter fingers bottling Irish.

  • “We looked like a bunch of old women with diarrhea”,

Not so ROC. That Irish team would have beaten the two teams that are about to play. It is time to acknowledge that Wales have now become a terrific international team.

  • Dewi

    Thanks Seymour!

  • Mark

I wondered before the game if the hard feelings Gatland felt after been shafted by the IRFU and Eddie O Sullivan may hamper his judgement in the lead up to the match .

Obviuosly not ….. and the twinkle in his eyes after Wales scored their tries showed how much he relished getting one over his former employers .

  • Republic of Connaught

I do respect this Wales team, Seymour. I really hope they make the final. But I believe Ireland are rightly renowned as chokers.

We had ample opportunites to score tries. We made far too many unforced errors and none of our best players played near their full capacity – which we needed in our biggest rugby game possibly ever.

They can’t sit in the dressing room and say they played their best and lost. They didn’t. Maybe I’m biased. but I think we had better players out there than Wales with Heineken cup medals etc…

  • Mick Fealty

There is nothing to rival the Marseillaise… Another big game coming up!!

  • Dewi

    Yeah on ITV+1 – still 12 minutes to go….

  • Dewi

Good grief – I’m supporting england!

  • Dewi

Only kidding – Allez la France!

  • England sliding out of the World cup after just half an hour 16-0 down. No way back, I would suggest.

  • Republic of Connaught

France look a totally different outfit today. When they play like this they’re quality.

  • Mick Fealty

Looks like Pienaar had it right. Without hitting the tryline early and often, England will lose.

  • That is the end of England’s World Cup campaign.

    The inquest will now begin.

English fans would not mind if they lost to France in a thrilling encounter. France, after all, have always had a deep pool of rugby talent. However, France are not a well-drilled outfit at the top of their game and the English know their team can play much better.

Apart from that, I think Johnson made a serious blunder by not selecting Fluty to be selected for the squad.

The 2011 semi final line up now looks like 1987 one but lets hope that Wales make it to the final.

  • the future’s bright, the future’s orange

Stunning performance from Wales. halfpenny, priestland and roberts were sensational. But hats off to gatland – a tactical masterclass. Too often Wales throw the ball about but they played a wonderful kicking game and played their fancy rugby for ireland’s half. Gatland sure smoked poor kidney on the tactics front…

ROG was hectic – looked as though he was kacking himself from the start. I guess the ghosts of world cups past still haunt him.

France looked half decent – I’d love to see Wales get through but france have the firepower to beat them. was Roberts injured? He needs to be 100% = he always puts wales on the front foot.

  • Jimmy Sands

Wrong tactics, wrong #10, too predictable. Wales knew exactly what we would do and countered it. That said they’re some team and with an average age of 12 (sbs pls chck) frightening to think how good they’ll be next time round. One consolation, Rory Best’s performance indicates we must have the world’s best physios.

  • Mark McGregor

Only just resurfaced after the early start, can’t believe so many of you were fit to comment during.

The main thing I’ll say is I wish O’Gara had watched that annoying advert where the sushi chefs discuss the benefits of kicking for points over playing line-out margins. 4 good penalty opportunities were given over to chasing the try in the first half.

I can’t help but wonder if making it duller should have been the chosen option. But boy are the Welsh on form.

    Alas hindsight is 20:20.

  • Dewi

That Pocock is playing South Africa by himself.

  • Dewi

How on earth did Australia win that???

  • Dewi

    South Africa 76% possession.

  • Dewi

    Territory sorry.

  • Dewi

And Argentina score…..what’s going on ???

  • History has partially repeated itself. The same four countries that played in the 1987 semi finals are playing in the 2011 semi finals.

  • PJ Maybe

Republic of Ireland’s rugby team gets chinned and Slugger O’Toole hangs black flags from Unity Flats.
