Irish crowd problems are summed up by the Irisih Times as

“IT’S A shame the Palindrome won’t be bursting at the seams on this homecoming for the boys in green”

(I think the millenium stadium will also be struggling to fill itself)

In relation to today’s matches, Paddy Power et al, who are rarely far away are predicting a win for Ireland and sound beatings for England and Wales(12 and 9 points respectively).

Regarding your boys – they dont have the strength in depth and Gatland’s boast to be world cup challengers just looks silly as does the gullibility of the public in belieiving him.

Gatters should get that contract signed before reality bites.

    South Africa to win

    Alan Maskey

    “South Africa to win”

Tenner on that (you get the draw ) money to Slugger?

  • Alan Maskey

So if Ireland/Eire/ whoever beat South Africa, I give £10 to Slugger and if the inevitable happens, you do.
Ok will do. But some caveats: Taking this challenge absolves me from all future bets (I abhor gambling). And i wil contact the admin to send the money (maybe a little bit more) on in my own way.
Though I don’t mind this, I don’t want to get into betting every timer I express an opinion, informed or otehrwise about a sprting fixture.
should be a great fight tonight between Casey and Highland. I fancy £$%(& to win.

    We’re on.

  • Alan Maskey

IWager note for donation to Slugger O’Toole.
t’s a good day for sport. Celtic did well, showing what a load of crap the SPL is. Wales went down but that is not a problem as Wales will soon not exist.
Dewi will probably not be with us much longer.
(I refer to Cardiff v Swansea. That is going to be like Bagdad).

  • TheFuture’sBright,TheFuture’sOrange

2 great games so far, Pleasantly surprised by england – decent performance, if not much pattern to their play. Wales looked a little tothless in attack but the ozzies are looking very very good.
Ireland should be comfortable enough against a very understrength SA side, I expect a slug fest. But let’s see…

  • Driftwood

Stephen Ferris did well during Southern Irelands national anthem. Apart from not tying his shoelaces, a poisoned grimace will do just fine.

  • Alan Maskey

There is too much crapology before these games. Why had the South Africans (hello iwsmcn) two songs? Then there is the silly Presidential salute and two songs for the Irish. None of the songs was sung with passion. AnabhF belongs in Croker, the Ireland song belongs in the boozer at closing time.
The white SAs made a good stab at their national anthem. But no passion. Still, at least my bank account is holding up better than the Micks.

  • Alan Maskey

I forgot to mention Keith Wood wearing a poppy. WTF?
The Irish made a late rally but my bank baance just made it.
Anyweay Sammy: I sent an email toslugger admin before the game, saying I would pay a tnner in Ireland won and £20 if they lost. I like to cover my bets.

  • TheFuture’sBright,TheFuture’sOrange

‘I forgot to mention Keith Wood wearing a poppy. WTF?

maybe he’s not a sectarian biggot?

rubbish performance – SA pack immense – played the conditions really well. almost felt sorry for the punters paying 80 quid to watch that crud. but I’ll put it down as stupidity tax…

  • Itwas SammyMcNally whatdoneit

    Feckedy feck, shite and arse.

  • Dewi

    …times two…

  • Itwas SammyMcNally whatdoneit

    Debt paid.

  • Alan Maskey

And i sent off £10 too. Mind you, a draw would have been a fair result.
Dewi: Sorry about Wales. I hope, for your sake, you are nowhere near the Sweansea/Cardiff war zone tomorrow.

  • Dewi

A strange lack of imagination from Wales – although the Australian backs looked very slick….

  • Itwas SammyMcNally whatdoneit

Brillaint Butlerism from Eddie in Observer re. England game.

” Ben Foden saw more of the ball in the opening 10 minutes than Bob Hiller saw in two decades in the 1960s and 70s.”

England worryingly looked by far the best of 6N teams (not too keen on ‘home’ term) larglely down to the influence of the Northampton brat pack – which is also worrying for the Heniken Cup.

Considering injuries Wales did reasonably well (much better than Ireland) but really need to stop talking themselves up so much. Suprised Edwards puts up with Wazza’s jibber jabber.

  • Progressive Unionist

It’ll be a very interesting 6 nations before the World Cup begins… England do seem to have their act together for the first time in a while.

I thought we showed great promise in the last 20 mins…. hopefully that’s the Ireland that’ll show up for the rest of these Autumn tests…

  • Republic of Connaught

Ireland are getting worse rather than better under Declan Kidney. Sorry, but I’d eject him before the World Cup if he doesn’t improve rapidly. The amount of unforced errors Ireland make is abysmal.

Michael Cheika for next Ireland boss.

  • JM

“Michael Cheika for next Ireland boss.”

You might want to rethink that one when you read this (extract from Bernard Jackman’s book in Irish Indo)!

‘I don’t believe any player at the end of his career deserves to be treated like a piece of meat’

    Friday November 05 2010
Everyone is afraid of Michael Cheika. After a few years of the ‘new’ Cheika, he’s regressed, back to the ‘old’ Cheika — the Cheika who first arrived in Leinster five years ago. Then, it was his way all of the time. He was nearly always angry. He was also a control freak. He wanted to do everything himself, run the game-plans, run our fitness schedules, run everyone’s lives, always his way.

By the way, how could Declan Kidney be responsible for unforced errors made by players?

  • Itwas SammyMcNally whatdoneit

“Everyone is afraid of Michael Cheika”

Not sure anyone gives a flying feck as long as they get results.

“By the way, how could Declan Kidney be responsible for unforced errors made by players?”

Usual Jibber-Jabber – coaches also get blamed for the players lacking basic skills. Part of the problem is no one really knows what they(coaches) do and how much/what is down to the players or to the coach.

A few of the England players, amusingly, post Word Cup victory, stated Sir Clive Bullshit (the Jibber Jabber masetro) had feck all to do with the victory.

Kidney, on reflection, did not, make the best selection, though personally, pre-match, I thought he had the selection spot on.

Shocking decision by Wales not to go for the scrum when awarded penalty from lineout close to Australia line near the end of the first half. Wazza should have told them that if dominant in the scrums then go for the kill. Failing that it is down to the Captain. Piss poor.

  • Johnny Boy

I went to the European Cup final at the Millenium Stadium, the ticket was less than £20 I believe, I don’t think they’ll struggle to fill the stadium at those sorts of prices.

  • Johnny Boy

Hardly any youngsters at Saturdays game at the Aviva I hear.

  • Dewi

…and missing the blasted kick about summed it all up.

  • sammymehaffey

At E60 a head would have filled and got the same revenue

  • Lindy

    Hi Alan

Just to let you know, the South Africans did not sing two songs. Our National Anthem “Nkosi Sikeleli” (God bless Africa) is sung in 3 languages, but is one song. :0)

  • Dewi

Really enjoyed the game today – could have won – but at least competative.

  • Itwas SammyMcNally whatdoneit

Welsh pack not strong enough. Where now Wazza’s claims to be a world cup contender?

Still they at least have some shape and looked much better than Ireland who were absolutely awful.

  • Dewi

Updated with results and links to highlights.

  • Seymour Major

Watched England beat the Wallabies. Was expecting to see the usual forward game but having seen the last part of the NZ harboured some flicker of optimism that they might at last be improving.

What happened was verging on fantasy. An England attacking back line thumping the team that beat New Zealand a few weeks ago?

I think they have to be serious FN contenders this season.

  • Are Scotland THAT bad or are the All Blacks just too good.
The first half of the match was a flawless performance the Kiwis were brilliant.
I only caught the last 10 mins of the Welsh match and it was very very exciting, so close yet so far.
This years 6 nations should be interesting particularly with a resurgent England, the question is can they keep it up?
As for Ireland, hmmmm relying on O’Gara whilst a proven performer at this level i’m not so sure. I suppose we will be able to guage how they’re doing after next weekend but i really can’t see us beating the All Blacks, how much we lose by will be telling

  • Come on Dewi, I know you are disappointed that Wales could not beat Fiji but would you update the results please.

    BTW, great result for Scotland

  • Dewi

Updated with results. Good Scottish stuff and Ireland had a go…this All Black mob look pretty damn good though…(Wales….Wails…)

  • Itwas SammyMcNally whatdoneit

Wales struggling to stay in the top 10 – Wazza Gatland has some more chewing on his own words. He clearly undrestimated Fiji and picked too weak of a team. Player for player in many positons Fiji were simply better and played some brilliant rugby – if only they had a scrum…

Ireland palyed as well as they could, just outclassed, a pointless fixture. Hope FitzG is ok.

Excellent result for Scotland – good to see them get a win,

Englezes struggled but still look the pick of the 6N
    teams on show.
