Four arrested in Laois in counterfeit cash investigation

Not much detail on this one yet, but the iol report notes that four men, in their 40s and 50s, were arrested in County Laois this morning “after an extensive operation, which has been ongoing for several months”.  RTÉ adds

What is believed to be a sophisticated counterfeit operation and underground bunker has been uncovered by gardaí in Co Laois.

Four men in their 40s and 50s have been arrested; two are being detained in Tullamore and two in Portlaoise Garda Station.

The discovery was made this morning and gardaí say it will take a number of days before they can definitively establish what is on site.

They say the operation was initiated following an analysis of increased activity in counterfeiting across Europe.

It has been a good few days for the Gardaí.

So that’s where Gordon Brown has been then over the last while and with all this printing money talk….

RTE now reporting Gardaí believe some of the men involved may have IRA / dissident links but that their involvement here was purely criminal.

I wonder if they borrowed the OIRA’s money printing machine? You know, the one they got from North Korea? No wait- that only prints US dollars.

I thought you had lost the run of yourself, Pete. I read it as Laos. hehehe

  • Munsterview

You are way behind the times boy……….. that is now printing literature for a certain political party that has a similar name to one that lost an election in a nearby European country. They did bring the odd useful thing with them when moving house into a big house, a very big house in fact!

  • Hedley Lamarr

Wow, that must be some fancy literature!! I forgot about the Democratic Left/Labour Party merger.

was there any voting papers for fst printed on it.find out soon in the upcoming court case

  • Hedley Lamarr

I suppose we will find out. Of course some people will always say that the OIRA’s US Dollar counterfeiting machine printed extra voting papers for Fermanagh South Tyrone no matter what the courts say…

  • A slow news day indeed, surely this was on RTE early last week.

No doubt those arrested will be found to be members of a well known political party who, it will be discovered, had nothing whatsoever to do with criminal activity ever.
