Great British public in agreement with `our Sammy`?

According to a poll by the Times, some 59% of the UK population agrees with former NI Environment Minister, Sammy Wilson, that the case for Global warming is not proven. It seems the Government and Green lobby has a lot of work to do with a sceptical UK public in the run up to next months climate change summit in Copenhagen.

  • joeCanuck

This was definitely not a poll in any scientific/statistical sense.
It was a “random” selection of people asked for their opinion in Guilford High Street.
Take it with a big bag of salt.

  • the future’s bright, the future’s orange

Global warming is a nice excuse for western governments to raise taxes. What’s the point of us paying through the nose, when developing countries are paying no attention whatsoever. Pointless.

  • joeCanuck

    Not totally correct, tfbtfo.
China is making a huge investment in “green” energy and are becoming a world leader.
My own country, unfortunately, is doing next to nothing.

  • Garza

    future’s orange.

The one’s that say man-made global warming are journalists that have no experience in science, or scientists who have a payroll with gas and oil companies (they pay TOP salaries for this). In the scientific world this is calling “selling you soul” coz you are distorting the truth for a BIG salary.

If man-made global warming didn’t exist – there would be no way that the Bush Admin would have started putting research into bio fuels especially with so many oil tycoons in the admin.

I blame Clarkson. The number of people who take him seriously is frightening.

So, the Global Warming fundamentalists are becoming a dying breed. After 11 years of non-warming Global Warming, is it any wonder?

Even the BBC’s climate correspondent has seen the light! Some Slugger contributors, though, have a little bit of catching up to do and a pile of apologies to make.

  • GavBelfast

If they trawled enough, they would probably also find a % of the GBP who agreed with Sammy that the world has more fossil fuel supplies now than it has ever had.

You seem to don’t understand that annual tempertarue flucuate but the general trend of annual temps is getting warmer ever since shortly after the industrial revolution coincidently.

If you expecting every year to be warmer then you don’t have a full grasp of the subject.

Geology shows in the strata of rock beds that high temperatures in our planet’s history coincide with high CO2 temperatures.

There is a lot of evidence for man made global warming and the skeptics are going to need more evidence than “oh look its been cold the last few years” to debunk it.

  • Garza

Anyway regarding Sammy I wouldn’t go to the DUP for science advice.

From Sammy “there is not global warming” Wilson to Mr Edwin “the world is only 6000 years old” Poots.

The DUP are also trying to get creationism taught in science classes in schools!

Just one of the reasons I dislike the DUP so much.

Apparently 20% of British children think Adolf Hitler coached the German football team.

In another survey the great British public where asked who they were going to vote for, 60% said they didn´t know but they would definately not vote for Jedward.

  • andrew white

“oh look its been cold the last few years” to debunk it.

the earth is cooler now thatn in 1998 and has been every year since.

  • Doctor Who

Really Andrew and yet the Polar ice caps continue to disappear at an alarming rate.

Tell me are the guys in this link just trying to scare the shit out of us.

Not surprisingly the public do not trust anyone/organisation that is trying to make money out of them.

Would you trust the politicians in westminister to wipe their own a***e (with out rigorous expenses)

We cannot trust anyone e.g. politicians, clergy, bankers, judicary.

At this stage trust no one not even yourself (you are probably being fed false information)

Ah well its our own fault we vote (politicians at least) in to lie to us.

“Ask yourself who do you actually trust these days”

  • The Raven

“China is making a huge investment in “green” energy”….because they know we will buy it. Shoddy, the lot of it. There’s an interesting DARD report on some of the wind turbines that were bought with grant, as part of a “suck it and see” experiment, back in the day. You should read what happened to the Chinese-manufactured gear we were flogged….

“So, the Global Warming fundamentalists are becoming a dying breed. After 11 years of non-warming Global Warming, is it any wonder?”

If anyone thinks that six billion inhabitants, and all their ensuing rubbish, pollution, development and large scale planet clearing has no effect on the planet, either meteorologically or physically, then something, somewhere has gone rather wrong…

  • Panic, These Ones Likes It Up Em.

tis funng how if we are all so doomed that so many want to make money out of it/us.

You would think that they would be too worried about survival to worry about PROFIT

Trust no one that is trying to make money out of ye.

Ye may die but you will die happier.

  • iluvni

why didnt Sammy contribute to the Climate Change debate in the Commons a fortnight ago?
All I watched was a group of MPs shit scared of being labelled deniers.

    Hi Garza,

“Geology shows in the strata of rock beds that high temperatures in our planet’s history coincide with high CO2 temperatures.”

With respect, well actually without, I think you’ll find that is complete boll*cks. Global temp on a geological timescale varies between 12 and 22C. It is in no way related to CO2 levels. For example, during the Cambrian period CO2 reached 7000ppm. Prior to the Carboniferous period there was obviously more CO2 in the air as the carbon ended up in coal/oil. Temperature didn’t plummet with it being taken from the atmosphere. In fact during the Triassic and Jurassic temps were back to the 22C level ie about as warm as it gets globally. Since the Jurassic, CO2 has been diminishing. Despite this, during the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods temps had again been upto the 22C level.

GW is a scare story like all the other media created scare stories – millenium bug, bird flu, pig flu, the egg scare, BSE, coming Ice Age of the 70s not to mention the GW of the 1920s!

  • congal claen

    Hi Doctor,

The ice caps do not “continue to disappear at an alarming rate”. Antarctica, were 90% of the world’s ice resides is accumulating ice. On the BBC you’ll see that Antarctica is melting. But, they’re cherry picking to suit their GW agenda. Remember they sponsored that GW concert only a few summers ago! They’re talking about the Antarctic Peninsula which is a small part of Antarctica as a whole. As a whole, Antarctica is cooling and accumulating more ice. Worry ye not!

It was only 5% in another article Doctor.
It seems journalists do not understand percentages and that is a big story.

It seems Obama has another Copenhagen failure on his plate. And everyone used to blame Bush for the problem!

Would it be churlish of me to suggest that those Slugger bloggers and posters who castigated George Bush for years on this topic withdraw their misstatements and apologise?

  • Panic, These Ones Likes It Up Em.

I pretty much like all kind of Bush except G W Bush

Some nice words on Obama from SpiegelOnline:

Obama Has Failed the World on Climate Change

    Obama Lied to the Europeans

… the US president has now betrayed this claim. In his Berlin speech, he was dishonest with Europe. Since then, Obama has neglected the single most important issue for an American president who likes to imagine himself as a world citizen, namely his country’s addiction to fossil fuels and the risks of unchecked climate change. …He was either unwilling or unable to convince skeptics in his own ranks and potential defectors from the ranks of the Republicans to support him…

Wow, it’s not Bush’s fault any more? We have come a long way!
