Cwsg Osian

Daithi links to this article in the Western Mail. It’s a review of a new book on Michael D Jones, who established “Y Wladfa”, the Welsh colony in Patagonia in 1865. The National Library has a nice site on the trials and tribulations of the project. And finally the Irish connection – Eisteddfod Chubut – the winning ladies party in last year’s Chubut Eisteddfod in Patagonia. It’s an excellent version of “Cwsg Osian” – Osian is your Oisín of Tir Na Nog.

    Dewi,

really good website – it is one most interesting cultural colonisations given the odds against it of success and it is also one of the least well known as evidenced by the refusal of the immigration authorities to admit the Patagonian student.

ps The National library is probably the most impressve building in Wales?
