O’Loan appointed to House of Lords

While everyone else is off at the parades, the House of Lords Appointments Commission has nominated Dame Nuala O’Loan to sit as a crossbench peer. She will join Lord Bew, Lord Rana and Baroness O’Neill on the non party cross benches from Northern Ireland.

Also appointed today is Sir Jonathan Sachs, Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth

Is Baroness Blood of the Shankill a Labour peer?

O’Loan is a good appointment – she will add a lot to the Lords debates on NI.

    O’Loan
Predictable reward for serial quango hackette. Has she ever earned a penny that didn’t come from the taxpayer’s pocket.
    Dr Sachs
Richly deserved. In my opinion, the most admirable religous leader in the UK since the late Cardinal Hume.

‘Serial quango hackette’ she may be, but nobody can accuse Nuala of being a government patsy.

The fact that she has managed to continue her rise despite making someone so far up the security/establishment food-chain look like the village idiot is a credit to her undeniable integrity and talent.

By the way how is your silver plate polishing coming along Sir Ronnie???
