Six Nations – Final Round

There’s only one game that really matters today and it kicks off in Cardiff at 5.30pm. [Adds Jack Kyle interview] Before that Italy will hope to retain some pride against a French side stung by last week’s defeat – kick off 1.15pm – while at Twickenham England host Scotland in the annual battle for the Calcutta Cup. RTÉ’s Brendan Cole has a bold prediction – Ireland by 10 points. The Guardian’s Robert Kitson is more cautious, Ireland by a single point – “roared on by the hoarse ghosts of ’48.”. And Eddie Butler is settling down to watch the fur fly.. Half-Time In Rome, Italy 3 – 25 France Final Italy 8 – 50 France Half-Time At Twickenham, England 15 – 3 Scotland Final England 26 – 12 Scotland Grand Slam! Wales 15 – 17 Ireland. Last minute penalty miss by Wales leaves Ireland in front and undefeated Six Nation Champions 2009.

I know the saying “the table never lies” but most people would agree that Ireland and Wales were best two teams even if welsh underperformed but to give them more than double the amount of players than the actual winners is amazing.I mean Gavin Henson, what the hell is that all about?

  • Dewi

Henson not played enough this year – but on form his defence is magnificent. Shanklin best Welsh player this year. Me I’d make O’Driscoll captain and partner with Flutey however….

  • It was Sammy Mc Nally what done it

    Mick,

how unlike me ? I cant back up my outrageous statements – his coverage of Munster is Ligidinary as they might say themselves.

Stephen Jones is very biased and unable to admit when he gets it wrong he is ligidinary twit on munsterfans.com website (which is an excellent source of info) for his biased attitude against Munster/Ireland.

BBC pundits’ predictions. No consensus on inside centre interestingly. Ryan Jones not included anywhere – I’d be astonished if he doen’t play in the test team myself…

just back from cardiff, what a weekend! had a rather excellent view of the game although it was quite frustrating not being able to hear why the ref was awarding so many wales penalties!

was very very amusing to see my companion, who is ‘pure east belfast’ as we say, running up and down st mary st under a giant tricolour singing fields of athenry

  • dewi

I witnessed that wonderful tricolour…superb theatre…..but I wish you’d learn more than the blasted chorus….

  • It was Sammy Mc Nally what done it

    Dewi,

it’s was always so…..we might have far better rugby players than you have but when it comes to the singing we just cant compete.

Anybody seen the “futures bright the futures orange” the-good-for-nothing-Prod had a bet with me on 6N and he has become as elusive as his garden-centre-co-religionists?

  • dewi

Sammy – it’s usually “good for nothing “fat” Prod” that winds them up….

    Codeword “respect” hmm

  • Mick Fealty

    Sammy,

I wasn’t challenging you on veracity, just asking you to share the joy! And perhaps edge you away from that man-playing tick you get sometimes…

  • It was Sammy Mc Nally what done it

    Dewi,

spot on. I mused on including the word fat and decided against it as I want to get money out of the misrerable fecker.

    Mick,

“man-playing tick you get sometimes”. Talking of man playing – I must re-watch the game to see how many times ROG was attacked by the those fat-Welsh-forwards in the first half – thankfully they werent fit enough to keep up with him for the 80 minutes.

    Historical perspective on Ireland’s win.

nice article sammy, thanks for the link

dewi, having heard hen wlad fy nhadau at full roar i’ll have to agree with sammy that we couldn’t possibly compete. although when your chorus is as simplistic as ireland’s call there doesn’t seem to be much need to learn the words properly 😉
