“when he did so he accepted the Interim Commissioner’s report”

Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff popped up on Talk Back today to say that, as he had eventually told the Interim Commissioner appointed by the Northern Ireland Assembly Committee on Standards and Privileges, he “does not condone vandalism”. He also claimed he was reflecting on the situation and was “in a number of minds” about the Committee’s recommendation that he should apologise “for breaching the Code [of Conduct] by means of a personal statement to the Assembly.” Except that he had told the Committee that he accepted the Interim Commissioner’s report which concluded that his “comments [were] not consistent with the responsibility described under the heading of “Public Duty” within the Code of Conduct”. Perhaps Mr McElduff would like to go back to the Committee?
