“when he did so he accepted the Interim Commissioner’s report”

Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff popped up on Talk Back today to say that, as he had eventually told the Interim Commissioner appointed by the Northern Ireland Assembly Committee on Standards and Privileges, he “does not condone vandalism”. He also claimed he was reflecting on the situation and was “in a number of minds” about the Committee’s recommendation that he should apologise “for breaching the Code [of Conduct] by means of a personal statement to the Assembly.” Except that he had told the Committee that he accepted the Interim Commissioner’s report which concluded that his “comments [were] not consistent with the responsibility described under the heading of “Public Duty” within the Code of Conduct”. Perhaps Mr McElduff would like to go back to the Committee?

How embarassing for an Sinn Féin MLA having to apologise for the actions of Ogra Shinn Féin and their idiotic stunt.

  • joeCanuck

Not quite, Salem. Apologise for his own action.

Sad times indeed when the child dictates to the parent.

  • Ulsters my homeland

…and even sadder when the parent supports the childs criminal actions.

  • dodrade

Does this mean Barry McElduff would not consider it vandalism if someone were overnight to “neatly paint” his house or car orange?

  • ulsterfan

After all perhaps “the child is father of the man”

  • Pancho’s Horse

Subtle difference, dodrade, is that Mr McElduff’s private posessions are not state (and foreign state at that) apparatus.

  • Pancho’s Horse

And another thing, my homeland. Why is the nation of Ulster not among the 6 nation sporting event. We have a national capital and nearly had a national stadium. Are we not an nation?

  • Billyo

Damn those English swine for planting their infernal “state apparatus” in our wee land. My God, they’ve tricked us into posting letters to each other!

Why any Irishman who accepts mail is nothing more than a Quisling and a prop for the invader, and possibly a legitimate target as well.

  • Archie Purple

Barry should be set in concrete beside one of his green letterboxes…the Leprehaun and his Tardis in the middle of the square in Crossmaglen perhaps

  • Saoirse

Fair play to Barry McElduff!!! Good to see him voicing his support for greening of post boxes! Great campaign for sinn fein youth the be involved in.

  • Mack

Glad to see McIlduff being forced to apologise and congratulations to the DUP for making the complaint. This proves that devolution is working in that Jim Allister couldn’t have got McIlduff to apologise with his policy of direct rule.

we don’t want the wee idiot in Cross, we have enough idiots of our own! keep him in tír eoghan.
could somebody arrange to keep him off talkback for a few weeks, surely there is someone else who can speak apart from barry.

  • Pancho’s Horse

a slight little CLCG sulk, perhaps?
