Escalation in community hall attacks?

Bawn Orange Hall near Pomeory was attacked last night. However, it appears to have went beyond the standard arson with claims an explosive device was also used.

  • Ulsters my homeland

This needs to be stopped immediately before we have another Tullyvallen Massacre on our hands.

  • Big Maggie

However, it appears to have went…

What’s with the “have/has went” on Slugger of late?

Anyone who has went to Queens …

    Now Fair Deal…

It is clear that ‘something needs to be done’ on this issue.

My plan would be this …

DUP & SF have joint press conference, condemning these incidents in the strongest form and without whataboutery and making a committment to take concrete steps in their own communities to stamp this out.

The Churches should follow suit, at least those who are willing, but I think most would.

And thirdly the GAA and Orange Order should also come out and committment themselves to an education program. The GAA would naturally wish to confirm that they are a very different kettle of fish from the OO but the fact is they are in the same boat.

The media could also start a campaign, committing not to resort to whataboutery.

All of the above said, I must admit my personal belief that there is more afoot here than meets the eye.

  • Greenflag

I’ve a better idea . Why not burn them all down GAA Halls , Orange Halls , Church Halls , Community Centres the bloody lot – that should save the retards on both sides a lot of time and anxiety and keep them happy 🙁 They can celebrate the province wide arson in an open field somewhere .:(

“I must admit my personal belief that there is more afoot here than meets the eye.”

I’m not so sure anything is afoot, it’s simply the case that nothing seems to be done in N.Ireland unless it happens to Cathlolics or organisations which would predominately be Catholic.

Almost 300 Orange halls have been attacked since ’89 amidst the IRA/Sinn Fein protests against Orange marches, and what has been done about it? Damn all.

All of a sudden a few GAA halls get similar treatment of late and the media starts interviewing Tom, Dick and Harry, and suddenly suggestions are made to do something about it.

    The hypocrisy stinks!

  • Greenflag

The authorities could of course bring immediate 24 hour round the clock for security to all Orange Order halls and GAA clubs and community centres province wide . Anyone attempting to cause damage to any such premises would be shot if found trespassing ! The cost of this extra ‘security ‘could be deducted ‘ on a per capita basis from all taxpayers in NI and also from recipients of the dole or welfare benefits.

I’d say that would stop it !

  • Province wide arosn Greenflag? 6 counties or 9?

  • Ulsters my homeland

Why did Gerry ‘sack’ Brendan McKenna? that man gave everything for the IRA/Sinn Fein recruitment plan which involved the creation of resident groups and the burning down Orange Halls. Is his work done for the Provies and now his recruitment skills are passed onto eirigi?

  • Bill

You’re wasting your time Big Maggie – the standard of written and spoken English in the North is truly abominable. The ” I seen” “I had went” “I done” brigade are everywhere in Northern society.

Presumably you missed the loyalist campaign against the GAA in the 80s & 90s which resulted in numerous murders of GAA members (and the attendant equivocation of Unionist politicians) -something rather more serious than a few burnt halls?

  • Heres me like

With what did they equivocate Dec ?

    Ulsters My Homeland,
Given your obvious “whatabouery” your contribution is deviod of any merit whatsoever. It is precisely because of attitudes held by narrow minded blinkered people like you that the problems in the North continue.

Out of interest, in your view how many counties are there in Ulster?

  • blinding

Both sides have their idiots but what can be done except extremely expensive surveilance.

Goes to show that there are people on both sides that were happier on a war footing.
    Pscyopaths r us.

What’s your answer? just go back to a time when your ones were afflicted? Why not deal with the situation right now and stop the beast which you created in the first place? can you stop it?

“Ulster is as what Ulster does”…a yank told me that

  • Pancho’s Horse

Umh, don’t believe all the yankers tell you.

With you on that one, although to me the more obvious route is for the GAA and OO to organise a joint conference. After all, they’re the injured parties, not the DUP and SF. If the vandals saw that those parties are united against them they might stop and think.

  • Big Maggie, Bill,

What’s with the “have/has went” on Slugger of late?

    It’s Ulster-Scots, you philistines.

Either that, or Jimmy and fair_deal are ‘Protestant boys’.

  • Big Maggie

    Horseman

I wish I hadn’t posted that. It dilutes the seriousness of the topic.

  • Dec

With what did they equivocate Dec ?

Couldn’t be bothered doing an exhaustive internet search but Sammy Wilson’s description of the GAA “being the IRA at play” sticks out.

  • dub

    fair-deal,

the past simple of the verb to go is went as in yesterday i went shopping, the past participle of the verb to go is GONE…. e.g i have gone to France 3 times in my life…

  • Republic of Connaught

I’d guess half of the people burning Orange Halls and GAA Clubs are below 21. It seems like acts of young thugs not representing anyone but young thugs.

And has anyone ever told Ulster’s my homeland that the majority of people in Ulster are proud Irishmen? Unionists are in the minority even in the province of Ulster, is the reality. That’s why NI is six Ulster counties, not nine.

    Not that reality matters.

  • Fermanagh Young Unionist

    ggn,

The GAA would naturally wish to confirm that they are a very different kettle of fish from the OO but the fact is they are in the same boat.

So you think there is a hierarchy of victims with these incidents?

  • borderline

    dub,

your loyalty to standard home counties english is typical dub…. And nothing to do with the rest of Ireland. Dublin, lest we forget, is where lads are called guys. Please shag off.

Now I’m not a great fan of Gregory TwistedMouth; – but when he points out that all these ham sandwich halls are rebuilt, usually bigger and better than before, by local contractors with the right connections, he has a point.

Make your Proddy neighbours rich and comfortable – Burn an Orange Hall.

  • Dave

Actually, Dub, ‘I have been to France three times’ is correct. You omitted the aspect of the inflected verb, i.e. the interrelationship between categories of place, time, duration, person, frequency, etc. ‘Gone’ implies that you have not returned from the place you went to; and contradicts the stated frequency (since you must have returned from France at least twice). 😉

  • ggn

    FYU,

    No.

  • Big Maggie

    Dave

You know your stuff lad! But can I keep on saying ‘I’ve gone off my rocker three times’? Somehow ‘I’ve been off my rocker’ doesn’t do it for me :^)
