Executive ‘power vacuum’ continues

Confirmation, if any were needed, that the power vacuum at the centre of the Northern Ireland administration is to continue through the summer. As Mick noted previously, the NI Executive last met on June 19th. From the iol report

Officials today confirmed Thursday’s meeting had been cancelled and while they insisted the work of government continues, the decision means the Northern Ireland Assembly’s ruling Executive has not met in more than a month.

As I have mentioned – Still, they all have a political mandate.. Adds According to the BBC report

Sinn Féin junior minister Gerry Kelly denied there was a crisis.

They’re just holding onto the ball temporarily..

‘Leader of the SDLP Mark Durkan had warned against further delays.

He raised concerns over the growing economic crisis hitting consumers and said: “Is the Executive’s best way of meeting this crisis not to meet?”’

Well Mark, on the form to date YES.

Then again the lack of advice and guidance from the astute executive team may explain the current predicament of world finance/treasury ministers, heads of central banks and the wider global financial sector.

N.B. BJ Remarkable. The above is not a cut and paste job.

can you really have a crisis in a pretend government built upon and sustained by creative ambiguity?

This farce has gone on too long.

Bring back the Brits – they may be ignorant and incompetent but at least they don’t have a pathological hatred of all things Irish.

My 7 yr old son is intrigued by your question. (yes, we do surf the fantasy world of slugger. it brings us together as a family)

he thinks you can have a pretend crisis in a pretend govt. however the only sense he could make out of creative ambiguity was his suggestion to bring in Shrek to deal with the ‘baddies’

I don’t know. Maybe god does.

It has been said that god acts in mysterious ways…and with respect to Antrim and Strabane the lord doth take pity.

Then again, according to recent DVA tax disc records, there are no taxed vehicles in either the Antrim or Strabane DCUs.

Let us be thankful for a remarkable and laudable reduction in the communities carbon footprint.

Praise the lord… and pass the buck

Sammy’s question is very interesting. I suspect that there are no fixed cameras in Antrim or Strabane, and the filth obviously don’t do the hairdryer thing there.

Isn’t the Knock dual carriageway in Castlereagh ? I bet there are cameras on that.

Interesting point. I googled ‘Antrim Strabane Fixed’.

    Nothing came up…aside from politics

    Comrade,

Yes, it is as well as the Saintfield Road; another hotspot.

I wonder when Sammy asked that question given he now has road safety within DOE.

It makes me think back to his first press conference after getting the ministerial post. Apparently (allegedly) he was late and blamed the traffic as well as the fact that the speed limit couldn’t be broken due to said cameras. What a great start!
