Diamond Dan lives!

Saturday night mirth has been sunk by Sunday morning sober reflection. This morning’s Sunday Life reports that the possible legal dispute over Diamond Dan has been resolved at the cost of £86. Meanwhile as Diamond Dan bounds away with his cheesy grin still in place Belfast City Council may not be feeling so happy. The Sunday Life also reports that the new heart shaped logo for Belfast that cost £180K and took a year to prepare has a striking resemblence to a logo for Devon produced foodstuffs that took 8 weeks to agree and cost £7K. (Both stories presently offline)

Damn you Diamond Dan! You’ve thwarted me evil plan again.

Anyone thinking of using my ideas from the other thread, the bidding starts at £86.

As well as not knowing what superpowers Diamond Dan possesses, I would also like to know whether this mild mannered chap happens to work as a news reported by day (the News Letter?)?

As for the BCC’s new logo. I’m afraid it looks too much like butt cheeks to me.

…with one bound (and a cheque) he was free…..

It would hardly have needed a cheque for this small amount, the petty cash would have covered it, petty what an appropriate word.

Still theft is theft – not very christian of a christian organisation.
I think that was actually the joke – not how much it would cost to buy themselves out.

With regard to Belfast’s comparatively expensive logo – I have often wondered about organisations that need to bring in someone else to decide on corporate literature.

Belfast Council has around 2,500 employees. Are we saying that someone somewhere couldn’t have pulled together a small working group to come up with some options? Isn’t this something the Councillors could have had a hands-on role in? I mean, surely two or three of them could have been involved…saved a fortune….

I am always amazed at the way local councils are unable to take advantage of their staff’s talents.

“I am always amazed at the way local councils are unable to take advantage of their staff’s talents.”

Have you ever worked with Belfast Council? They are useless, so I expect the decision was made while bearing in mind “talents” of the staff.

I always found it remarkable how 41 percent of people here are employed in the public sector and yet little seems to get done and front line public services are always said to be stretched (or non existant).

Then we have public servants going out on strike even though many of the decisions etc. are farmed out due to the cult of the consultant.

Don’t get me started on the double and treble jobbing politicians…

I know for a fact that the council weren’t happy with what was presented to them but the amount of time and money spent on it meant that they tweeked what was presented and accepted it.
It should also be noted that it was not a local company (who would have a greater understanding of Norn Iron) but an English design company that produced this rehashing of a rebranding.
I am totally un enthused by this logo.

What are all those purple signs going up around Belfast’s boundaries? Are they markers of the city territory – like a dog pissing on a tree?

Why do we need all those and what did they cost? Why do it nopw with local government reorganisation pending?

  • cynic

Just looked again at that logo. I can now see how they derived it.

All you need to do is stick two spindly legs at the bottom and a push chair in front and you will see her every day outside McDOnald’s at Castle Junction.

    Cynic,

I guess because Belfast City Council will be largely unaffected.

Is that a smile on Diamond Dan or a `I`ve just done a jobby in my trousers` look ?

Cynic, That is funny. True too. lol

    Brilliant. Mucho gusto.

Of course the rights to the original image are still open for anybody to purchase and modify and disseminate as they see fit. Stand by for the appearance of Fenian Fergus in his dashing green and gold attire. Hopefully we’ll get to see these infantile cartoon characters locked in a protracted and pointless battle on northeastern streets sometime in the distant past….oh hang on…

“Stand by for the appearance of Fenian Fergus in his dashing green and gold attire”

Hey, who are you calling a Fenian?!!
