Is timing everything..

Sinn Féin’s Gerry Adams might be meeting with the Northern Ireland Security Minister Paul Goggins, MP, but UTV has a short report on another outstanding issue. From the UTV report

Republican sources have told UTV they are hopeful there will be progress in most of the cases of the Disappeared, who were abducted and killed between 1972 and 1986.

Did someone mention a deadline target date?

I should think we’re going to miss the target date/deadline by a distance.
The total mess over the victims’ commissioners today is really making me wonder whether a system of mandatory governnment can work.
Sometimes there is a right way and a wrong way and sometimes one party is right and the other is wrong. With this system, we will always end up with a pickled compromise, simply because one side or the other wanted to be seen to amend and not for any worthy ideological end.

This whole saga of the disappeared or let us be honest murdered and then hidden is extremely revolting.

Republicans (ie the IRA) were supposed to cooperate with the Commission for the Recovery of Victims Remains and there were digs. So if they cooperated fully in the past how is it that now all of a sudden they can help more. I am sure some cheerleaders will come on and explain how difficult it all is. However, I am left pretty certain that what is happening here is that this is yet another little carrot that the republican movement is dangling, no doubt expecting something in return. If they are holding back information on this issue then they are not fully committed to exclusively peaceful and democratic means. Hiding bodies being at variance with most people’s understanding of that.

Of course in this they are absolutely identical to which ever part of the alphabet soup did exactly the same to poor Lisa Dorrian.

  • Pancho’s Horse

Turgon, you are not stupid enough to confuse Sinn Féin with Óglaigh na hÉireann .. are you?

  • IRIA

I’m guessing some of the perpetrators of the “disappeared” are no longer alive and others may have the phone numbers of special branch, already.

  • Mark McGregor

As allegations of British agents within the IRA increase and those allegations are often connected with the ‘nutting squad’, I do start to think , if true, perhaps British agents are just continuing their role by not providing information they may have.

  • Hogan

    If either:

    A. The provisional movement have kept the whereabouts of the dissapeared as a final bargaining chip beyond decommissioning and policing

    or.

    B. They have no information and merely intend dragging victims families beyond through the mire of false hope yet again

then both options just highlight what a bunch of goulish self-serving sadists they really are.

    Disgusting.

There is a great sadness attached to it, when one tout whacks another tout, that’s a Mafia gang,

  • Billie-Joe Remarkable

Is there any chance that somewhere in the distant future you might stop condemning the IRA? Because, get this, they don’t fucking care. You may as well come in and condemn Nazi Germany. Boring self-indulgence is all it is.

Oh – the IRA are murdering bastards. See? Nothing!

Oh – the IRA are murdering bastards. See? Nothing!

The first beast, who is said to be the Antichrist, is prophesied to have “seven heads” (Rev 13:1), which is coincidentally the number of heads on the IRA army council, including Gerry Adams’ allegedly.

Have they said they have information which they arent giving out?
I thought the issue was, supposedly, memories fade (although i can’t see how you could forget such a thing) or that the relevant people are dead.

“Republican sources have told UTV they are hopeful there will be progress in most of the cases of the Disappeared, who were abducted and killed between 1972 and 1986.”

Merely commenting on the info in the thread my good man.

It is what usually happens here?

As far as i’m concerned the two options i identified above are sufficently mutually exclusive. (I notice no provisional apologists have squeezed another option in between? I suppose its early days!)

Are the dissident groups cooperating with the Commission for the Recovery of Victims Remains?

Does the amnesty legislation only apply to members of organisations that are on (officially recognised) ceasefire?

I know that the distinct dissident groupings (apart from INLA) weren’t around at the time when the ‘Disappearings’ occurred, but some PIRA personnel of the time, who’ve since gone off and joined one of the dissident factions, might have been responsible (the two major splits occurred prior to the setting up of the Commission). If so, this might explain why some of those responsible haven’t cooperated fully (either because they don’t feel compelled to do so as the ‘war’ is still on, or because they fear the amnesty wouldn’t apply to them).

This is purely speculation, but could this explain why some of the ‘Disappeared’ such as Charlie Armstrong weren’t named in 1999 when PIRA claimed responsibility for nine victims?

I would like to see John O’Connell banned from this site please Mick for constant trolling .Every other thread i’m reading about this Anti Christ mularkey.

I was amused at first but now…

Is anyone else seriously peed off ?

  • Tienan

My, how the Shinners get upset when they’re at the other end of bad news.

  • Tienan

It’s not meant to be amusing by the way. I’m deadly serious and it is really only ignorance that has you reacting in that manner. I say no to censorship, what about you? Echoes of the Andersonstown News fiasco in your post.

  • Gregory

Oddly enough and if one makes the assumption that Henry is referring to me, which is probably a reasonable bet..

The lunatic fringe of this alliance of fundamentalist Christians and extreme feminists even try to portray the lap-dancing industry as akin to the slave trade. One particular God-botherer from the Catholic far-Right in correspondence with the work permits agency has even threatened Tony Blair and blamed the Prime Minister personally for allowing Ireland’s shores to be polluted with this filth.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2002/nov/03/northernireland

There is an element of truth in that I see Blair as being a sinister element.

I’m not sure I’d peg Gerry Adams as being in the same package, I think Big Brother No1 is just not as smart as he needs to be.

I usually avoid hotel rooms with the wrong triple numbers (& divisions etc. thereof) except one at the Stormont Hotel, which has a relaxing view of the Belfast road (into town).
