Early reaction from Adams

A Belfast Telegraph report has the Sinn Féin leader, Gerry Adams early reaction to his party’s performance in the Irish General Election.. as well as the more pointed comments from Fianna Fail director of elections PJ Mara.

Party leader Gerry Adams said he believed Fianna Fail may have benefited from Bertie Ahern’s contribution to peace in the North. “Sinn Fein isn’t putting our heads down and going away – we have a job of work to do,” Mr. Adams said. “We believe in the essence of Republicanism – that people have rights. We will obviously have to wait until this election’s over to find out how out the party has done, but it appears Fianna Fail have benefited from some of the more positive dimensions to the peace process.”

    Gerry,

it’s not all about the f’n peace process right? You need to articulate domestic polices not keep beating the PP drum. You failed to get your domestic message across, you flipped on your taxation policies and you started talking about getting into govt with FF. That and being squeezed by the tight race between re-electing the current govt or replacing them with FG/Lab are the reasons for your stall.

After watching Adams on the debates and comparing his performance to those during the 94-97 period I realise it’s time for Adams to retire.

Mr. Adams said. “We believe in the essence of Republicanism – that people have rights.”

Except for those he thought legitimate targets of course.

  • Gerry Lvs Castro

Good ol Gerry — noble in defeat.

Perhaps it’s time to realise that his party’s future is in UK politics.

you mean joining trimble in the house of Lords.
It could be part of a new republican strategy, doing the opposite of what’s expected, just to confuse the ememy. you never know 😉

  • So Fianna Fáil benefited because they were really Shinners… I see. I know everybody has to spin on count day, but if Gerry really believes this then the Shinners are screwed in the next election in the South too.

Oh, and people thinking you make great local councillors but not trusting you to run the country is a syndrome that has afflicted the LibDems for decades, so I’ve been where SF are now and feel your pain. Sort of.

Gerry’s been at the Alliance/SDLP/UUP school of trying to polish a turd.

What’s wrong with an old fashioned I’m gutted and I blame the Dubs 😉

More seats in the Assembly than you have in the Dáil. And Ireland’s largest and most successful liberal party!

Sounds like an entirely reasonable reaction at this stage Soupy. And getting plastered tonight.

People have rights – but apparenty not the right not to have to listen to that oul shi*e.

Nor it would appear do they have a right to hear some policies from SF – its all the Ruane school of hushed platitudes as usual.
