More on the apparently racially-motivated attack.

Ed Joyce passed fit after a stomach upset to make debut for England today.

Disgraceful about the Indian team but not exactly surprising, is it?

Is chasing visiting crickets teams around the streets of Belfast part of the warm up? Or is Belfast an unspeakable, festering dump best avoided?

  • Pete Baker

Joyce out for 10 runs off 21 balls.

  • Pete Baker

But he was picked and did open the batting.. he’ll probably get, at least, a couple more chances to establish himself.

I’m confused I thought it was just the prods who were racist ….

Anyhing under 300 will be OK from here…

So there is some use to which Stormont can be put ?

Cricket is said to be a cure for insomnia. The eternal Stormont comic opera farce is another . An ideal match no doubt . Still we’ll raise a mild cheer if the Irish defeat the oul enemy 🙂

  • Mick Fealty

Too late. It was close run thing though – missed out by just 38 runs.

I thought the Irish fielding and out cricket in general was excellent. The batting and bowling… well, needs some work. The England team looked to have a lot of time to play their shots and come down the pitch to Johnston and Langford-Smith while Ireland looked hurried all the time against the genuine pace of Harmison (and Chapple too) – it looks like the bowling machine needs another 10mph added. Imagine Shoaib and Edwards steaming in on a fast track in March – ouch!

Also, can we donate some money to the players to invest in some arm guards? I think Botha was the only Irishman wearing one. Hard leather ball at 90 mph plus, versus forearm = trip to the ED!

  • The corporate hospitality was a little bit primitive, but otherwise, as entertaining a County game as you’re likely to see.

Joyce playing his first ODI against meaningful opposition today – come on Ed! Make some runs!
