Flag problems of another sort…

North Wales Chief Constable Clive Wolfendale has said that ‘excessive flag waving is unnecessary‘. He added: “There’s no doubt about it that this can be the precursor to behaviour which is much worse than flag waving – it’s violence, it’s racism, it’s hooliganism of the very worse kind.” Shorts have banned England World Cup Wall Charts. Tony Blair will fly the English flag in Downing Street, but Welsh (ie Northern Ireland) and Scottish Secretarys will not be expected to follow suit.

Jesus, the unnamed Welshman almost — but not quite — said “800 years of oppression”. Is it time for the World Mopery Cup as well?

    From the Shorts story:

‘But Sinn Féin West Tyrone MLA Barry McIlduff insisted that the neutrality of the workplace was of prime importance.

“There needs to a consistent approach,” he said.

“Anything that bears a Union flag makes Catholics and nationalists feel uncomfortable. I get calls all the time from people who feel uncomfortable having to walk under the Union flag in their workplace or in a public building. This is eight years after the Good Friday Agreement.

“Nationalist sensitivities need to be listened to in the symbols and emblems debate. If it makes any worker feel uncomfortable then management has a duty to listen to that worker.”

He added: “Personally speaking, I think Irish people are sick of having England in the World Cup pushed into their faces.

“What we need is (Wayne) Rooney-free zones. That’s what the people are looking for. It’s sickening to listen to commentators going on about it ad nauseam.” ‘

    Comments:

    1. Why is he complaining about the Union Flag? It’s the England flag that is at issue. Doesn’t he know that they are different?

    2. ‘I think Irish people are sick of having England in the World Cup pushed into their faces.’

Who is pushing it their faces?

    3. ‘It’s sickening to listen to commentators going on about it ad nauseam.’

Here’s a handy hint – stop listening to British TV and radio stations and reading British newspapers.

Talk about needing to lighten up. The UK has a team in the World Cup and all this ‘representative of the nationalist people’ can do is whine on about Irish people being somehow forced to consume British media. How is this being achieved? Loudhailers on the streets pumping out the propaganda? Irish folks being held in detention camps and forced to watch British TV and listen to British radio?

If he wants Rooney-free zones then why doesn’t he do something about setting them up? Turn off the British TV, stop listening to the British radio and read only the Daily Ireland. That’s if the DI isn’t already covering the England team. Surely in west Tyrone he could avoid British media if he chose to.

Better still, why doesn’t he and similarly sickened Irish people move out of the UK to somewhere that suits them? So long as NI is British, there will be access to British media. Of course, this is the same guy who took the hump when a unionist dared to declare that the new stadium for NI would be the ‘national’ stadium. He’s just looking for ways to get insulted.

This is just more of the typical bah-humbug attitude of PSF to anyone who actually dares to enjoy themselves doing something that isn’t approved by them. Where’s the right to be British now? This part of our culture. Live with it.

I’ve never heard any unionist complain when GAA supporters are getting all worked up about some GAA championship, saying that it is sickening and that there should be GAA free zones. Of course if any unionist did, they would be condemned as being sectarian, and unwilling to allow nationalists to express themselves culturally. So why is it that this guy can come out with this nonsense and not be criticized?

    Double standards is why.

‘Is it time for the World Mopery Cup as well?’

    Donnacha:

    LOL. Good point.

Who would qualify for the finals though?

Here’s a list of potential finalists:
    The Irish
    The Welsh
    The Catalans
    The Basques
    The Kurds
    The Tamils
    The Palestinians
The north American natives (I know this is a large bunch of separate peoples)

harpo, you mean the World Champions have been knbocked out already, where are the Jews?

‘harpo, you mean the World Champions have been knbocked out already, where are the Jews?’

    LOL

They did a 2002 Argentina/France, and looked ahead to the knockout rounds before they had taken care of business in their qualifying groups. Same for the blacks. Two big favourites went down with barely a whimper. Overconfidence strikes again.

The Kurds and the Tamils came on strong in the qualifiers and eliminated them. Like Turkey and South Korea at the 2002 World Cup.

Amd of course, the Scots once again failed to reach the knockout round. As is their speciality.

  • Apparently, Peter Hain will fly the flag of St George at his london flat, but not at his constituency house in Neath for some strange reason.

    Harpo.

    Who are you represented by?

“Amd of course, the Scots once again failed to reach the knockout round. As is their speciality.”

Are you a wannabee Englishman? the world cup winning whingers in perpetuity.
