better weather for cricketers

as northern ireland basks in cricket weather, england’s first test starts against sri lanka at lords. locally rain has predictably affected first couple of weekends of season but only two unbeaten sides in section one meet on saturday. meanwhile ireland, who have already won away against gloucestershire, host surrey at stormont.

And this is supposed to be interesting?

Cricket brings two things – rain and trolls…

  • Donnacha

Never thought I’d see the day when I would read that Ireland were hosting ANYONE at Stormont.

You should keep up with your reading Donnacha. We beat the Windies there not two years ago. It is 2006, not 1968.

Given England’s pretty abject displays in the one-day game over the past few years and their spectacular ineptitude in the sub-continent this winter, Ireland must be looking forward to the ODI next month – unlikely to be a shock result but remember Kenya and Bangladesh…

  • Donnacha

Mick, what I meant was the hosts at Stormont have usually been of the Unionist persuasion and unlikely to refer to themselves as Ireland. And I think NZ has sufficiently caught up with the rest of the world for us to notice what year it is.

well i’m interested. I had friends in Malahide and cricket was the main gig and the best craic was in the cricket club. Good luck at Stormont, nice to see it being used for something!

Of all the England Sports teams, I have to admire the “Barmy Army” of England Cricket the most, especially compared to the well documented thuggery of the football crowd and the boorishness of the rugby lot. Even when the cricket team were utterly abject in every respect they followed them with good humour to watch defeats everywhere from the wilds Northwest Frontier to the Antipodes. It would be nice for them to be able to travel the shorter distance across the Irish Sea to play a good Irish side and I think that the Irish people would have a surprisingly good time hosting them.

Philip – why mention only the NCU?
Is this the only cricket in Northern Ireland?
