New crew receive orders

As the BBC point out, the new members of the crew at the NIO have been given their orders by [still captain of two ships – Ed] the Secretary of State for Wales and Northern Ireland, Peter Hain. – “At this crucial stage in the political process, I have decided that David Hanson will retain his Political Development portfolio and continue to work for an early return to devolved Government. Both Paul Goggins and Maria Eagle will have, amongst their portfolios, responsibility for driving forward the radical health and education agenda which the people of Northern Ireland deserve. I have asked Jeff Rooker to take personal charge of the whole programme of radical reform following the Review of Public Administration, from local government rates to the introduction of water charges.” Update 24 hours later Peter Hain has a little shuffle of his ownFrom the NIO statement –

Good to see such determined comments on the Education Order too.

I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so I know it would take me a long time to get to grips with some of these departments and their ever so clever civil servants.

Now I suppose I should be honoured that our super intelligent political class can whiz effortlessly from one department to another and Hain himself Viceroy of Wales and N. Ireland no less.

If some of them stayed a little longer some of us may feel less challenged, less inadequate, and may even join a political party and stand for election. But as it stands I know I wouldn’t be up to high BPM political musical chairs.

Though I must say our Deputy Prime Minister gives us normal folk heart.

judging from the names of the two newbys (a dangerous business, I admit!)these 2 look like descendants to the massive Irish move to Lancashire of the last 120 years. Few Protestants name their daughter Maria; Goggins is a Manchester Irish old Bedian; as was, if I remember correctly, An Phoblacht’s editor in the 80s.

Ah.. no potential conspiracy ever knowingly missed, pid 😉

I did say ignore that list, didn’t I? There’s an even better conspiracy theory with the updated list you know…
