New boy, new girls, old hand

MEPs have been active in Europe this week. Bairbre deBrun made her maiden speech (in the same session as Mary-Lou McDonald) and was selected for the Committee on Regional Development and a substitute on the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. Jim Nicholson, an old hand, was selected for the same committee as Bairbre, Regional Development also European Parliament Quaestor and Parliament’s Bureau Quaestor (The Quaestor positions indicate Jim’s standing amongst his parliamentary group as they are positions of one in a group of five that oversee the internal affairs of the parliament in the named areas) Jim Allister used his maiden speech to get a dig at the Irish, complementing Bertie on his ability to use English and was selected for the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, the Committee on Fisheries, and a substitute Member of the Committee on International Trade.

For over 20 years, Slugger has been an independent place for debate and new ideas. We have published over 40,000 posts and over one and a half million comments on the site. Each month we have over 70,000 readers. All this we have accomplished with only volunteers we have never had any paid staff.

Slugger does not receive any funding, and we respect our readers, so we will never run intrusive ads or sponsored posts. Instead, we are reader-supported.
