The respected dissident republican website The Blanket, which as regular readers will know is not known for its sympathies with the mainstream Republican movement or its supporters, runs a story on the grant funding it believes the Andersonstown News has attracted over the last five years.
However, the core of the argument is largely limited to the amount of money spent and the sources, rather than how the money was spent or to what end. In the case of La newspaper at least, it is conceivable that a case for it being a public good could be made.
It should also be noted that the paper already constituted a substantial private enterprise long before the current ownership. The group is presently planning to break into the Irish national newspaper market.
